When Wilson wakes up the morning after, his head throbbing, the too-bright light streaming in through the window, he's not sure where he is. Conference, he thinks, distantly. New Orleans. But not his hotel room.

Did he - no. Did he really get arrested last night?

The strum of a guitar. A too-familiar song. Billy Joel.

Wilson groans and turns over, in the direction of the music. His new buddy is singing. Smirking.

"Stop," he grumbles, mostly into his pillow.

House chooses to cheerfully, enthusiastically raise his voice instead.

"Ass," Wilson mutters.

"So cranky!" House grins and leans over to ruffle his hair.

Wilson slaps him away, not hard enough to inflict any real damage. Later he'll look back and think: yeah. Even then. Even then.

Young Simon does look like you. You see it immediately. But that's not what unsettles you about the photo. It's the man with him, the man who so obviously is in love with him, their heads leaning together, their faces lit up.

You have never seen House look that happy.

House refuses to look at him. He hates that his body’s betrayed him like this - that his mind’s betrayed him. The witch’s curse is psychosomatic, as far as he’s concerned; yes, there’s evidence for some physical markers of it, but the cure - ‘true hate’s kiss’, as the popular consciousness has it - is so clearly the brain playing tricks on itself. The thinking is that it’s a way for someone to punish themselves, a delayed reaction to a traumatic situation in which someone else has hurt them.
