"terminally ill people should be allowed to choose to die if they feel it is the best decision for them" and "euthanasia can easily become eugenics" and "we should provide support for depressed and suicidal people" are statements that can come into conflict but should all be respected
also “offering euthanasia to people who can’t afford actual treatment is murder”
And "be very careful about the 'burden to society' narrative in a society full of ableism".
In a perfect world we wouldn't be assigning genders to infants or requiring 'biological sex' to be listed on anyone's official documents.
Pretending that sex doesn't matter is absolutely ridiculous, even more so when involving law and medicine.
A male presenting with breasts requires treatment, a female with breasts is normal. A female who doesn't menstruate likely has a disorder, a male who doesn't menstruate is normal. And you want to take that distinction out of a patient's charts?
Intersex traits do not require "treatment"
An intersex person may require medical care for legitimate health problems. But make no mistake; "treatment" of Intersexuality refers to invasive, coercive, and more-often-than-not harmful medicalization done for purely cosmetic & social reasons rather than for the health of the intersex person.
I think it would be far more useful for doctors if instead of "M" or "F", a patient's current sex traits were listed instead, alongside notes of any unexpected changes, etc.
100% agree with this. Allowing for my chart to read nonbinary with me using testosterone would be lovely. Instead, even though I have had a hysterectomy for 3 fucking years, every single new doctor still asks me if there's any chance I could be pregnant.
