The reason the Delta variant developed is that the US (at least, I don’t know the state of other first-world countries and their vaccine supplies) hoarded the vaccine unnecessarily, creating a fucking petri dish of the global south that literally anyone familiar with virology could tell you was a breeding ground for mutations. This was inevitable because of the way the countries that developed the vaccine went about distribution of the vaccine, not because of the vaccine itself.
Would also like to add that not releasing the patent of the vaccine was also a contributing factor. With countires unable to produce the vaccine for themselves and being completely at the mercy of pharma companies looking to make bank off the vaccine, it allowed Delta to reach the level it is at.
Don’t let that one slip by you either.

The Covid19 pandemic truly is a microcosm for the banal stupidity and shortsightedness of capitalism. Let’s break it down.
- Rich countries are buying & manufacturing vaccines while developing countries cannot manufacture their own due to patent law, this prolongs the pandemic
- While pandemic is prolonged, new virus mutations risk emerging and making existing vaccine protection (including in rich countries) obsolete
- Pharma companies that own and produce the vaccine continue to refuse to make the vaccines patent-free, for profit
- Profit that will be dwarfed by the economic costs (both short-term and long-term) should the above mutation scenarios occur
You can disregard the ethical/humane side of this entirely and just look at the business side and it’s still so utterly fucking stupid.

Clinical trials on Cuba’s vaccine candidate, Abdala, have demonstrated a 92.28% effectiveness rate in its three dose application, making it one of the world’s most effective vaccines against Covid-19.
The news follows an announcement over the weekend by scientists of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, who reported an initial 62% efficacy of Cuba’s Soberana 02 vaccine.
The news was broken by journalist Leticia Martinez Hernandez who posted via Twitter, “The effectiveness with three doses of #Abdala is 92.28%. The scientist Marta Ayala has just informed President @DiazCanelB.”
Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel also confirmed the news, stating that “In less than 48 hours, Cuban scientists have given our heroic people, who are resisting the criminal blockade exacerbated in a pandemic, two overwhelming results. In two days we will denounce the blockade to the world, counting on two of our own vaccines. #SomosCuba #CubaViva”
Diaz Canel added, “Hit by two pandemics (#COVID19 and #Blockade), our scientists from Finlay and CIGB, have surpassed all obstacles and have given us two very effective vaccines: #SOBERANA02 and #Abdala. I think of Martí, who wrote that it is not intelligence received casually that gives man honor, but the way he uses it and saves it. There is only one way to endure and that is to serve. Above all, I think of Fidel, who did so much for Science and Medicine at the service of Humanity. He said: Everyone who has a vocation for health, I invite you to study … There is a huge world that is in need of you.“
The efficacy of Abdala places it above other vaccines such as Oxford/AstraZeneca which is 85-90% effective.

COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
Watch also when some first world countries finish vaccinating their populations, they will turn to third world countries and "donate" or sell surplus vaccines. People in these countries will go "Oh how sweet! The government is donating vaccines to the poorer countries <3" when it was their hoarding that led to many, many third world citizens dying before they could even get vaccinated in the first place.
Governor Abbott just lifted the mask mandate. Governor Abbott puts comfort over peoples' lives. Don't be like Governor Abbott.
