Story: 4 out of 5 Smut: 1.5 out of 5

So, I really liked this dark retelling of Cinderella. The shifter aspect was a nice touch, and the hidden identities was definitely fun, especially when you finally find out who is who.

The shifter magic involved keeps you intrigued, as does Remi who keeps coming back for Luella week after week. These two falling in love is a bit of a slow burn, but it’s worth the wait. Trust me!

[Book Two of Two]

Story: 3.5 out of 5 Spice: 2 out of 5

This book was a decent read, but very much could have been told all in one book rather than two.

Mara’s development was very much to my liking. I like that she went from being a victim to taking matters into her own hands. And Cole! This guy is a grade A psycho but we love him for it.

And though these books are short, don’t worry. All loose ends are tied up with a pretty red bow.

I don’t know what it is about this book that is keeping me from giving it five stars. I liked it, I did, but… something felt off.

It’s definitely a fast-paced obsession on Cole’s part, but it takes the entire book until they’re whamming and bamming lol.

The whole rival artists/serial killers trying to one up one another is fun, until it isn’t. Shaw is definitely a psycho, but his craziness pushes Cole to act out in a way he’s never been before so that’s a plus. And poor Mara is stuck in the middle.

There’s a slight cliffhanger and I’m definitely glad I have book two already on my shelf, ready to be read.

I love finding a new take on a Disney classic, especially if it’s a little dark and a little twisted. And Kingdom of Forgotten Curses did not disappoint as it blended Beauty and the Beast with Dracula. How cool is that?

However, I won’t lie and must admit I did struggle with this book. While the story is interesting with its twists and turns, I couldn’t really connect with Mina. I won’t go into detail because I don’t wanna dissuade any readers, but also because everyone has their own tastes in books and this is just one person’s opinion.

Alas, the story had its interesting aspects and was still very much an interesting read.

I have anxiously been waiting for the day I could read this book… and I. WAS. NOT. DISAPPOINTED! Holy shit, that was such a thrilling ride.

Enzo was such a grumpy, cruel shit head, but then again Sawyer did steal his identity. It almost felt too cruel at times, but let’s just say that Enzo was extremely lucky he was pretty. And knew how to bone lol.

Sawyer’s story will sadden you and then she will annoy you, but then you’re rooting for her along with Enzo.

Also, why didn’t anyone warn me about Sylvester?! The story surrounding him was crazy and I did not see that coming at all. I was also trying to play detective with his story, but I kept getting everything wrong.

This book is so good!

Also, those shark scenes, man. IYKYK.

Wow. This priest/stripper story is the best I’ve ever read. And that’s something I never thought I’d say lol.

The forbidden aspect between these two, and the angst and drama will definitely keep you coming back for more.

Amaya’s definitely had a hard life, all thanks to her jealous mother that abandons them. She ends up having to pay her mother’s debt to Parker… and let’s just say that you’re gonna wish a thousand bad things to happen to Parker and her mother. Serious bad things.

And then there’s Father Cade who’s not quite the normal priest. Seriously, his darkness is off the charts, but he’s someone you’ll be pulling for no matter what.

I did not see how this was going to have a happy ending, but leave it to Emily McIntire to figure it out. Though I was nervous about how this could possibly end on a good note, I couldn’t be happier about how all the loose ends were tied up.

Holy shit. This is definitely my favorite so far! Julian… I don’t know what to say. He’s everything I want in a live action Jafar- brown skin, tattoos, morally gray personality. I love that he’s the total villain and has set plans, only for those plans to unravel right before his very eyes.

And Yasmin! I loved her. I was so scared I was gonna hate her because she was so infatuated with Aidan… but her eyes were really opened in this.

I loved the family and relationship angst, and watching Julian come to certain realizations. You think Yasmin is a spoiled princess, but she is not. And I love her even more for it. Especially when Julian treats her the way he does in order to make her less helpless.

Normally I’m a huge fan of the fast-paced romance, but this slow burn was everything!

Oh wow. I don’t know why I was skeptical about a Wizard of Oz reimagining, but damn… it was so good! Although I do feel stupid for trying to match the “Wizard of Oz” characters to their “Wretched” counterpart lol.

Books One and Two had male villains, so it was fun to read about a female villain.

As the brains behind her family’s drug empire, I was nervous about how Evie was going to get her happily ever after with the new guy she fell for- an undercover DEA agent. She just keeps digging herself deeper and deeper, and just when you think Nick/Brayden is gonna meet his limit with her… he evolves.

I did not expect the DEA agent to evolve the way he did. But damn, I loved that he questioned himself and made the decisions that he did.

Wretched is filled with family and relationship angst, as well as some betrayals that you won’t see coming. Like holy hell… that one… towards the end… jaw dropped!

I can’t believe it took me so long to finish this book. After flying through Hooked, I expected the same to happen for this one, but I just couldn’t get into it.

Don’t get me wrong, Emily has such a wonderful way of telling a story, but I guess the royalty one just wasn’t for me.

Tristan (Scar) is everything in this book! I thought it was gonna take a while for me to like him, but damn… Michael (Mufasa) was just the worst. You’ll be rooting for Tristan from the very beginning.

As for Sara… I normally like the FMC right away, but she rubbed me the wrong way and it took forever to even remotely like her. Like I know she’s angry and wants revenge, but the entitled attitude was a no for me. Fortunately, everything worked out in the end.

Other characters will pull you in- Simon (Simba) is just the cutest- and others will have you wanting to punch them. Not all of them are who they seem to be. Seriously, I was left gasping because of who turned out good and who turned out bad.

I honestly wanted this book so bad because everyone recommended it as a Peter Pan retelling. Imagine my surprise, however, when I read the author’s note, and she states it’s NOT a retelling. But I still read it because I wanted to read a story from the villain’s pov and oh my god am I glad I read it. I am in love with James/Hook and I don’t care that he’s a bad guy.

Wendy, daughter of Peter, starts off as the naive girl that Hook is looking to take advantage of because of what Peter has done to him in the past. But as her rose tinted glasses come off, she becomes the young woman who you will come to adore and root for. And James… well you’ll be up and down with his character. I knew he was the bad guy going in, but I wanted to throttle him at one point.

I guess you can say this is a reimagining of the Peter Pan characters in a modern world, but instead of rooting for Peter Pan, Wendy, and Tink… you’ll be begging Hook for a taste of the dark side.

I am stoked to see what else Emily has written for this series!
