So is anyone else just on an eternal ADHD medication waitlist that literally involves waiting for people to die or give up meds so that they can give you their medication cause it’s frustrating and depressing
what are you guys' experiences with meds on Holidays?
i recently changed from Ritalin to concerta (slow release) but right now I have nothing to do. I feel like I'm just sitting here like a bristling cat
i literally had my first pill yesterday and I'm wondering if I should actually wait to start the treatment when Im more busy
also i changed because I got like chills and tingles on the back, i now feel them less (intensely and smaller area) can you tell me about side effects
i know i know"schedules", "keep a routine", "talk to your doctors", but I want to hear experiences~

I don’t know anything about meds, but my followers generally do! If anyone has advice/experiences then feel free to add them!
Hi! I wanted to thank you for your work, it pushed me to get a proper diagnosis. Which I just got (inattentive type) and my psychiatrist gave me Ritalin. Do you or your followers know how long it takes to have its full effect?

I’m really glad I’ve helped! ❤️
But no, I don’t know anything about specific types of medication—but if anyone has an answer to this question then please leave it in a reblog/comment!
Heya. First of all your blog has helped a lot since I got diagnosed at 30 (!!) and reading all your little tips and explanations I'm always like "omg you put the thing in words!" If I'm correct you have no experience with meds, which is obviously fine. I stopped taking them after experiencing bad side effects. I honestly do want to take them again, but I would actually want to ask your followers what type of side effects they experienced and how they dealt/are dealing with it? For me it's severe migraine once it works out. Thank you in advance and have a great day :)

I’m so glad the blog has helped and feels relatable! And yeah you’re right that I have no experience with meds, so I’ll leave this one open to my followers 😊

I’m so glad you managed to get on meds!
Since I don’t know anything about specific medication, I’ll leave this open to my followers to respond to 💖
Hi! This is not an ask, it's re: going on T & adhd medication. This is my personal experience: (23yo) I started T mid-march and got my adhd meds at the start of April (it's not Adderall btw, it's methylphenidate). My doctor follows both my treatments and saw no counter indication. I don't know if my meds actually do something. My mental health went downhill pretty quickly last year and that's how I discovered I have adhd (got diagnosed) and I asked for med to help me finish my master's thesis but so far it's not working for that issue in particular. However, I'm pretty sure it's helping me not getting too depressed on the evenings and probably also at the start of my periods (which used to be maximum depression day). But emotional regulation can also be due to the testosterone. Basically, I can't say anything for sure about T having effects on my ADHD symptoms or my meds but I can say I have the best emotional regulation in a long time. (I hope it was kinda helpful and I'm open to questions if needs be.)

I’m on meds for adhd, and they help me focus a lot better than i was a couple months ago, but sometimes i still get into a sort of zone where i just can’t bring myself to do homework. is that something that can happen or am i just procrastinating/being lazy being it’s something i don’t wanna do?
No, it's not just procrastinating.
That sounds a lot like Executive Dysfunction (a difficulty with transitioning between/starting tasks), which is a symptom of ADHD - medication is meant to help with that, but it doesn't always work all the time. Some days it can still affect us more than others, even with meds.
hello! same person who asked about meds and emotional dysregulation. i'm a nerd and made a survey about adhd and medication so i have a deeper perspective about the effects and maybe i can show it to my psych? if you can help me spread it by replying to this ask ☺️
anyone with adhd and medicated can reply to this survey and i'll be really grateful <33

That's a cool idea - I love sharing ADHD surveys! When you close the survey, or once it's been a few days, will you send a photo or link to the results? They'd be interesting to see :)
( For anyone who wants to do it, click here so you don't have to copy-paste the link in the ask )
Hey! This is random but I've been on meds for a couple months now and Oh My God it's amazing! The world is so open and new! Thought I'd share that <3
That's so good to hear! I'm glad you're doing well with it <3
Hey, Just wanted to ask you or any of your mutuals, is it possible to almost or completely recover from adhd? Also, if anyone is on meds for the same and is getting better, do they develop hypersensitivity (which they did not have before)to stimulants like caffeine, or certain painkillers, or anti fever meds?
No, you can’t “recover” from ADHD. That’s because ADHD isn’t an illness - it’s not something that develops. We are born with it, and it’s simply a different way of thinking.
Medication can help lessen the symptoms while we’re on it, but only while we’re on it. There won’t be a point where... you’ve taken enough medication and can come off it and feel Neurotypical. ( Though some people might decide to stop taking medication because they’ve developed coping mechanisms and can do okay without the meds now. )
And I’ll leave the other question open to my followers! I know that some people have said they can’t drink caffeine anymore after starting meds, because it makes them feel sick. ( Presumably, because their medications are stimulants, so adding caffeine - another stimulant - is a bit too much for them to handle. )
Thank you so much for this blog! Your posts helped me realize I might have ADHD, now several months later I've been diagnosed and am about to have another med check today (and I think I need to try a diff med).... Anyone still have sleep issues after meds? Like ALSO need a sleep med to stay balanced? :/ THANKS!!! <3
I’m so glad it’s helped!
( And I’m mostly leaving this question open to my followers, but I do know that when I had my ADHD assessment, she told me to see a doctor about getting sleep medication separately to my ADHD appointment. And I don’t think any ADHD meds contain melatonin - if they did, they’d just make us tired when we took them in the morning - so I doubt they’d have much affect on the sleep issues that come with ADHD )
Hi! This is for the sharing thing! I don’t have any ADHD friends so i wanted to share here :/ -So i’m in my 3rd year at college and oof i’ve been struggling through it and took this semester off to work on myself and such and i finally got diagnosed with inattentive-type ADHD. (yay!) -I’ve been thinking about talking to my doctor about getting meds but i’m nervous cause i feel like there’s a lot of stigma with that and i’m nervous about side effects but i also think it would help so ahhh idk
It’s so brilliant that you’ve been diagnosed!!
And you should never stop yourself from doing something just because of... bad stereotypes. Not everyone wants ADHD medication, but if you do want it, then you should try to get some. The idea of people becoming too reliant on medication is absolute BS, because... it’s just providing us with something our brain is lacking. That’s like expecting people with diabetes not to take insulin in case they become too reliant on it.
It’s okay to be reliant on it! Everyone else is reliant on it, too - theirs is just provided naturally!
And - depending on what country you’re in - there should be other versions of ADHD meds that you’ll be able to try if the first one gives you too many side effects.
I just started ritalin and I'm kind of worried that it won't work even tho I've only been on it for a few days cause so far I feel like I'm only noticing side effects and not any actual good effects. I started on a really low dosage tho, do you think that could be the problem? do you think it will work better when I'm on a higher dosage? do the side effects ever go away?
I know meds are a very individual thing, but I'm really stressed cause I turn 18 in two months and ritalin is the only available ADHD med for adults in Norway unless they have documentation that another med works better :/
I’m sorry you’re struggling with the medication! And that the doctors aren’t able to prescribe anything else.
I don’t know much about medication, so I’ll leave this one open to my followers - check back and have a look at the notes, because they usually have helpful things to say!
I also find my adhd meds help a ton with RSD, which I hardly experience anymore.
Oh, that’s interesting!
For the anon asking about meds, I find them really helpful! They help with being able to pay attention for sustained periods, keeping track of conversations, being motivated to do things, not losing things, not getting sidetracked, etc. They also help with impulse control which I really like. They don't really help with the time blindness or problems with planning because that's more of the executive function skills and stuff and pills don't fix that. Hope that helps a little!
^^
Do you know how effective ADHD meds are ? Like what symptoms of ADHD do the medication actually treat ?
I don’t know much about medication as I don’t take it myself and haven’t studied it, so I’ll open this up to my followers!
a neurologist gave me vitamin B9 (folate) when I brought up I might have adhd. Does it really help?
That’s not something I know the answer to, sorry! But check the comments below - people will probably leave their thoughts.
