Herb Kent (The Kool Gent) Dr. Read up on the much beloved Chicago radio personality here.
Saw this yesterday getting off the bus at 60th and Stony Island. Herb Kent is the real deal and one of the many reasons why V103 is the best radio station in town. I had no idea how far back he went and just how real of a deal he is. You learn somethin new every day!

"Autumn in Mill Street" by Harold Maxwell Hahn, 1941.
If you're in Chicago, you can check out this beautiful print in person at the DePaul Art Museum's really great exhibit of WPA-era printmaking, which runs through December 21.
I am no way affiliated with DePaul University or any of their museums, I just went to this exhibit last week with my mom and really enjoyed it.
Some great autumnal-type shit from a perpetually slept-on record for y'all to enjoy on this, the first day of autumn, 2014.
Rossi's Liquors, 412 North State Street, Chicago.
I stopped in for a pre-movie drink at this dank lil spot around 5:15pm yesterday. A bit more roughneck and unwelcoming compared to my other Loop weekday evening bar of choice but that could potentially be its own kind of appeal.
I had the distinct experience of seeing this dude first on the TV, on the 5 o'clock news playing at Rossi's, and then about ten minutes later in person, sitting behind a microphone at the glass-front ESPN radio studio at State and Lake. Only in New York, huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last Saturday my lovepartner and I were just stollin' around our Chicago neighborhood, minding our own business, when what did our little eyes spy but a big panel truck with the word TEXAS painted big and bold on the front of it. Turns out the Texas Tourism Office just wanted to give us some free shirts and take our picture.
I think this hashtag they're pushing is supposed to be read as "Texas To Do" but I prefer to think of it as "Texas Todo," an appropriately bilingual reminder that the Eyes of Texas truly are upon you all the livelong day.

My new (and, really, only) favorite place in the Loop to drink Budweiser alone between the end of work and the beginning of a movie on Friday afternoons.

I am hella excited for this new Real Estate record. Days is maybe my most returned-to album of the past few years; I think I listened to it about three times more often in 2012 and 2013 than I did in when it came out in 2011. Plus there's some Chicago in this (almost weirdly unironic) video!
Welcome 2 my world.

Joe Boston’s Italian Beef, Chicago IL
I pass by this place pretty regularly and have yet to eat there, much to my shame.

Dinner at my new Number One Burger Spot in the city, a Jonathan Richman show at Lincoln Hall, and a midnight screening of (an imported 35mm print [!!!] of) this gem at the Music Box. Doin' it UP. Y'all can't stop the Gator.
EDIT: I should add that I had LOBSTER for lunch. Everything's comin' up blah blah blah.
