I made these portraits back in February for a star wars ttrpg game that never was- I made my peace with the fact it will never happen, so here they are ! Two rebels and two imperials :)
I'm still so so proud of these ! It was the first time I tried to make disco elysium type portraits, and they turned out really good :)) my objective wasn't to perfectly emulate the style, but rather to have it blend with my own

There's a panel in Star Wars 17 where Vader tells Luke "Your strength in the Force has grown since last we met" and Luke corrects him "My connection to the Force, Vader," and this is interesting for what it says about the difference between Sith and Jedi philosophies but it's also an interesting character note that Luke feels compelled to be pedantic even in the middle of a goddamn firefight.

the one thing star wars lacks (apart from everything else) is two random guys that play backgammon in the corner in every cantina/bar scene of every movie
an important addition to that is that the two backgammon players should look exactly the same in every scene no matter what planet or year it is. even when they turn up in a movie that is 100 years from their last appearance, they should look identically
another thing is that the two jedi playing backgammon in the jedi temple are two different guys with each of them being a direct reference to their assigned cantina double
one of the cantina guys gets accidentally set on fire (they're fine dw) and in the next temple scene the guy who looks different but is clearly supposed to represent them is covered in soot
Sly Moore was confirmed a total party animal in Andor, so I wanted to design a quick and dirty outfit that says “I’m Palpatine’s only exciting friend”
Say what you will about Star Wars and the Sequel Trilogy, but Anakin would've freaking loved Poe Dameron. He'd be all "he's like you, but better" to Han, as a cantankerous Force Ghost. He also would've loved Finn, but it'd be more out of a place of concern, I think, and then pride. God, Rey should've been a reincarnation, it would've been such a promising thing to see her with Finn, even moreso than the shitburger of nothing they gave us 😞

I didn't mean anything is wrong with comedy, just that a writer who's solely on comedy might be a little rusty on other genres, (Esp drama and a little mystery). And that's not really inspiring to me when we're talking about a series that's set in the time of the Jedi Order. Cause it's highly likely they'll bungle it.
That's an understandable caution! I've been impressed with comedy-transplants since we got "Chernobyl" from the guy who did the Hangover sequels, but I'm probably being too optimistic. Still! I'm glad they're deviating away from "white dude who wants to revamp the whole thing while also playing it entirely safe and doing every character dirty and also being racist". If it's not Rian, I'm buyin'.

What's wrong with comedy? Plenty of writers have their history in comedy and are capable with the heavier stuff. Unless it's a certain type of comedy that you take issue with? I'm genuinely interested to hear about your reservations, especially because all I've heard is a lot of shallow excitement. We need some critical minds at play, imo, lest we repeat the sequel trilogy issues.

he's the racist antisemitic islamophobic piece of shit who runs star wars currently. he worked and trained under george lucas, and afterwards when lucas gave up star wars, filoni took over with disney and it all went to shit. the recent shows and movies with him involved have all for the most part sucked ass and with every new project he's creating, he's killing star wars more and more. he uses extremely offensive tropes and stereotypes in his work and it's genuinely so sickening!! not only is he killing off star wars, he's being an asshat along with it.
he made a muslim coded character who wore a hijab in the clone wars and she was a REALLY cool jedi. and me, along with many of my other muslim mutuals, were so excited to see a muslim character like us who was a jedi on screen!! we loved her so much and she was so cool!! and suddenly. oh she bombed the jedi temple. she's actually evil and hates the jedi. she's a fucking terrorist. AND she took off her hijab while doing it. horrendous.

he created the bad batch tv show which is a spinoff of the clone wars and EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THAT SHOW IS WHITE WASHED AS FUCK. the original actor of the clones, temuera morrison, is maori and is a brown man with soft and rounded features and they designed "altered" clones from him that were COMPLETELY whitewashed! light eyes, white skin, light hair, skinny, sharp, etc. and it was SO obvious too! LOOK

and on top of all of that, he's just killing star wars more and more. the beloved franchise is dying every day and he's only making more shows because he likes playing with his ocs like dolls, no matter how bad the story is. all of his recent shows have been failing and a new mandalorian movie just got announced the other day and people are ALREADY hating it! he killed the mandalorian (the show. not the character) with it's season 3 after taking the spotlight away from a man of color and giving it to a white woman who is an ACTUAL terrorist! and not only that but he's disrespected a LOT of cultures who use facial/head/body coverings by discarding "the creed" in which orthodox mandalorians cover their face as part of their religion! i personally connected a lot to that as a muslim who has an awkward relationship with the hijab, so seeing people on screen wearing religious head coverings was really cool to me. and then filoni fucked it all up by discarding the sacredness of a dying religion and it hurt a LOT of religious viewers (like me!) bc having our representation taken away was just ! so frustrating ! but that's a whole other story that i've talked about a thousand times on my star wars sideblog already bc filoni repeats the same bullshit over and over and we're tired of it.
and to bring it back to temuera morrison, they gave him one show with 7 episodes, two of which were completely NOT about him and his character at ALL and instead they gave those episodes from HIS show to the FUCKING MANDALORIAN 💥 and temuera's show gave a lot of representation to the tuskens which are an indigenous species who were inspired by the bedouin irl! so they took time away from exploring that and it was so 💥💥💥 UGH it was so ridiculous im genuinely still so pissed about it.
