Leia does not have to forgive Anakin to be able to move on with her life in a healthy way. She does not owe Anakin compassion or forgiveness for the things he's done. Leia is perfectly capable of remembering Anakin Skywalker for the monster he was and nothing else and still being able to let go of her anger and keep it from consuming her. What good would it do anyway when the man is dead? She's got bigger fish to fry and better things to focus on.

She doesn't forgive Anakin what he's done to her, but she accepts that he's dead and there's no point in holding on to anger and moves on. But what results isn't care or compassion for Anakin, it's apathy and indifference.
