A little gift I made for @templarhalo featuring Tychon, Kainda (on the left) and Charlotte (on the right) enjoying one of these quiet evenings between series of life-threatening adventures.  Sometimes, even in grimdark, there are good moments to cherish. At times they include telling your friend about the latest news and all the big and scary things you dad and big sisters sliced into pieces.

Okay so this is a big deal

To me, and to a significant subset of Sir Terry's fans (including most of you who've found this by the tags), his writing is serious commentary on the human condition - politics, prejudice, self-control, revenge vs. justice, religion, idealism, faith in people vs. cynicism, and more - dressed up with fantasy settings and a hefty leavening of humor to make it fun to read. And it is WILDLY fun to read, actual laugh-out-loud or at least a snicker averaging about every page.

But there's this common idea among the "important literature" people that fun and funny books are not also worthwhile or important in the same way.

This is a Discworld book being released WITH ACADEMIC COMMENTARY and AS A PENGUIN CLASSIC. That's a HUGE amount of recognition.

Oh, I’m about to tear up. I had to fight so hard to do my thesis on Pratchett because the university didn't like what they considered pop culture being studied as literature and this is just... Existing. 🥹

i feel like the knowledge that there are some medical databases with free-to-use 3D scans of various human organs available for 3D printing would have drastically reduced tumblrs amount of bone stealing scandals. plus you can make ones that glow in the dark.

If you don’t have a 3D printer, check the website of your local library to see if they do! If you’re in college, your university’s libraries could have one too! They’ll likely have info on how to submit a print to their services and how/where you could find them.

Imagine what kind of extreme, shameless indulgence that single fry -- a slab of nearly pure starch, covered in grease and salt, nearly longer than its own little body -- represents to a sparrow.

I'm reminded of once seeing a street sandwich vendor, who kept roasted pork in their cart. An inch-long wasp had snuck in and was chewing through the pork in bites larger than its own head. Cockaigne itself as Medieval peasants dreamt it would fall short.
