The Kingston Black apple fruitlets are now well formed this Spring. Hoping for good weather through summer to make our favourite cider this Autumn coming. Heralding from Somerset England, Kingston Black ( on M793) is a vigorous grower and good cropper for us in Wairarapa Aotearoa/NZ #cider #orchard #apples
Tiny perry pears. A wilding but good tannins. Even at harvest they are still tiny and spherical. I call this one Carterton as the original tree is still growing in the area and looks over a hundred years old and neglected. I grafted it on a few years ago. A few more years and I will be able to make a SV perry from it! Maybe tilting at windmills at my age!😉 #perry #pears #pearcider #orchard
Hygrometer. An important instrument to measure sugar to avoid disaster. A SG of 1.010 can mean 26grams residual sugar. 4grams/L fermented gives 1 atmosphere in a sealed bottle. #cider #MethodTraditional #cidery #hygrometer #sugar
Very happy with the SV Yarlington Mill 2024 . This is the first year we have been able to make a whole barrel. Great colour and lovely soft tannins. Just bottled for secondary fermentation. Release 2026 #cider #YarlingtonMill #SingleVariety #MethodTraditional
More bottling. Quite hypnotic watching the bottles fill. We have a simple gravity feed 4 head system. Works well for our scale of production. #cider #cidery #apples #pears #perry
Medlar updates. One petal left. The medlars are now all set. Looks like it will be a good crop. The four newly grafted medlars are all making good growth. And finally the barrel co-fermented cider with medlars from the harvest last autumn is tasting great. Now bottled for secondary fermentation. #medlar #cider #blossom
Birds of Beau Vista orchard - the Paradise Duck. They nest high in the massive Old Man Pine. This fledgling must have fallen out. Now wandering around till its parents return. #ParadiseDuck #BeauVistaOrchard #ornithology #cider #duckling
Busy day at the cidery, bottling the French oaked cider and the medlar cofermented cider for their second in-bottle fermentation. Special releases for 2026. Tasting petty good now. #cider #medlar #oak #SecondaryFermentation #MethodTraditonal #FWCMA

The Welcome Swallow, or Warou in Te Reo, are back nesting in the woodshed at TeePee Cider. Such beautiful birds in flight and perching. Wonderful nest building too. #TeReoMāori #warou #Swallow
If you were coming to TeePee Cider and Beau Vista Orchard many decades ago this is Carterton Station where you would alight. Unchanged today. 😊 #wairarapa #Wairarapaline #train #trainstation #Orchard #Apples #cider
We attended the 2024 NZ Cider Festival in Nelson today. The best to date. Judges felt the quality improves year on year. We sampled all the winning ciders and concur. Including a fantastic 0% cider from Peckham’s cidery. Oh, and we won a bronze and silver and an award for best in class perry 😊 #cider #perry #Nelson #NewZealand #NewZealandCiderFestival
And just like that the beech hedge is green. The orchard cycle continues. Weather has been kind to the orchard this year. Good fruit set. Just a few of the late blossoming cider apple varieties still flowering. #orchard #apples #hedge #hedging #beech
A big shout out to non bee pollinators. #NZPost has just printed this set of stamps. In Beau Vista orchard we see both the large hoverfly and the metallic blue and they help with pollination of our cider apples and perry pears. #pollinator #hoverfly #orchard #apples #pears #blossom
A brief history of the Royal Wilding cider apple in two parts. Read it in Cider Musings. #cider #apple #pomology #mysteries https://teepeecider.co.nz/blogs/cider-musings/the-royal-wilding-cider-apple-and-its-history
Check out the latest Cider Musing on TeePee Cider. Why are apples self infertile? A complex game of seek and kill at the protein level. World Apple Day is 21st Oct. It was first celebrated in England in 1990 as National Apple Day and was created to highlight the significance of apples and orchards in local communities. Since then it has spread the world. However we in the Southern Hemisphere have blossom not apples now. New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Chile all produce excellent apples and cider Happy Blossom Day! #apples #cider #NationalAppleDay #blossom
