A rare backstage photo of me as Caithe. It’s always so nice when an event offers you a good backstage area where you can get ready for the stage shows and the photoshoots! ♥ ♥ ♥ xxx Liza

Guild Wars 2 - Caithe - Seeds of Truth/Point of No Return version
"To catch a thief, you must become a thief, but be wary—following Caithe’s trail will take you down a strange, dark path."
It’s finished!!!! Thank you all so much for your support when I posted some progress a while ago. ♥ ♥ ♥ I am so happy that I got to portray Caithe again after the last time I cosplayed default Caithe in my other outfit of her. ♥
I’ll be cosplaying Caithe again in June at another convention here in the Netherlands and I’ll be performing there in the Cosplay show. :D And after that, somewhere in the summer..... Sophie (the other half of Team Paraluna) will be making her new Faolain!! I can’t wait!!! :’D
Caithe is really the sort of character that embodies why I love cosplaying so much; bringing characters to life.
It is still amazing for me to see how I started out with such non-Sylvari looking materials, but then transformed them into leaves, vines and other plant shapes by dyeing, cutting, painting, sealing and general crafting all over!
I would also like to thank Sophie for helping me so much and doing my bodypaint. It was perfect!! Thank you honey!!!

Work in progress of my new Caithe cosplay from the living story update Seeds of Truth and Point of No Return.
It’s still not done, but hopefully that will soon change!
Hi, I have a question about your Caithe Cosplay. I was wondering roughly how much fabric you used to create it. I'm planning on making my own version and a heads up on how much fabric I should buy would be really appreciated. any other tips would also be awesome. thanks
Hi there!
That is a difficult question. It all depends on your own specific measurements. I am considered to have quite an average height here in the Netherlands of 1.74 meter. And I have the European measurements for S to XS sizes.
So for the bodysuit parts you need as much fabric as you would normally use fabric for a bodysuit with your own measurements. Just try to draw out the patterns first before going off to buy the fabric. :D
For all of the leaves and plantshapes I think I used about 5 meters of fabric? Me and Sophie (who made Faolain) had about 13 meters in total of which a lot disappeared into all the layers of her huge skirt haha.
I hope any of this information helps you at least a bit. :)
Good luck with your Caithe cosplay! ♥

First, might I say wow your cosplays are astounding. I was wondering if I might be able to ask a question. I'm planning on descending on into sylvari cosplay hell, and I've got everything all planned out....except for what material to use. So, I was wondering if I could ask what you guys used for Caithe and Faolain's outfits, if it's not too much trouble. Thanks! c:
Sure, that’s no problem at all :D For their outfits we mostly used fake leather, because it’s pretty heavy and sturdy without making us completely immobile. We found one that had this texture on it that really resembled the veins on leaves, so that was helpful in achieving that “leafy” look. :) For the details and Faolain’s neckpiece for example we used Worbla. :) We’ve got some progress pictures up on this blog as well, if you want you can check that out, I think that makes it way clearer than when I try to explain it all in words haha xD here.
Anyhow I’m really happy to see more Sylvari cosplays so good luck :D If you ever run into any trouble we’d be glad to help :D
"Those who fall to Nightmare, can never return to the Dream. They can remove themselves from Nightmare, but they cannot remove the Nightmare from themselves." I am so SUPER STOKED about the new Caithe and Faolain outfits from Guild Wars 2 and we went shopping for fabrics and materials and I was all like I reaaallyy wanna do a make-up test for Faolain again. It's been a while, but it really does help that I've practiced the Sylvari a couple times now and have worked with this kind of make-up for Mystique as well. :D No photoshop, it was literally like this on my face x'D As you can see in that happy thumbs-up picture as I was derping in front of the camera, ahem. Tools of the trade were just four Kryolan colours; black, white, mossgreen and some midgrey. Then just a sponge, some brushes and some q-tips. :) Took me about an hour and a half to do, which is fairly reasonable. ^__^
Caithe and Faolain <3
ArenaNet has done it again. :') It's time for salad costumes, version 2.
(I honestly never thought we'd make more Sylvari costumes, but here we are. These two ladies are worth all the pain <3)
What did you use to make the leaves on your sylvari cosplays? Is it craft foam? I know for the neck piece you used worbla, but the leaves for the clothing are what im curious about o.o
The leaves we are wearing are made of texturized fake leather (the texture resembled veins in leaves). :) We reinforced it and painted them all by hand. They were pretty stiff, but just flexible enough to move around comfortably. Hope that helps!

And so the epic adventure of cosplaying Caithe and Faolain begins! These pictures were taken at Anime 2013 in The Hague, the Netherlands. We wore these costumes for two days, spending five hours on the make up each time, and it was totally worth it. :D We got so many awesome reactions from the other visitors and had great conversations with other GW2 players. It was so much fun to meet you all!
On friday we also performed on stage (picture 1 and 2) to compete in the Dutch preliminaries for the European Cosplay Gathering in Paris, and we won! We couldn't be more excited to go to Paris and represent our country and Guild Wars there! :D
You may also have seen us on the Guild Wars 2 facebook page, as -to our surprise- we were featured there this morning. If you'd like to see, you can find it here :D
A great big thanks to our photographers, Jeroen Weimar and René Westerveld! <3
Thanks for watching!
How much would you sell a custom made sylvari costume for? :)
I don’t think we’ll be making or selling any other Sylvari costumes any time soon, but thank you for the interest and the compliment :)
LAST DAY
WE'RE WEARING THEM TOMORROW
SO EXCITED
AAAAHHHHH
:D :D
We are really in the state of putting it all together, finallllyyyy! :D
Okay first picture is Caithe's hair again. Shape changed a bit, some details added. Now it only needs to be painted.
Second picture is one of the twigs that Caithe has growing out of her coat. We were working on it with a dremel tool. (The twigs have been painted now, added some glow and such.)
The rest is just more painting, trying out the glow in the dark paint under the blanket (8D), Faolain's freckles, more painting, and trying on parts of our outfits with still lots of pins in them (don't worry, Caithe will also have the giant scarf. We just didn't photograph it yet. And Faolain's side leaves will stand out even more later. ^^). We are stitching it all together now. The pictures of the stitching aren't too interesting.. mostly because you can't even see the stitches. xD But it's all very close to being finished!!!! :D
I can't believe it but.. we are almost done! In 5 days we will be wearing these cosplays for the first time!!!
Lots and lots of painting!! Here you can see Sophie painting the leaves of her Faolain dress + neckpiece, while Liza is busy with the leaves on Caithe's coat and her shoes. :D All these paintjobs are far from finished though...
So much painting left to do! But it's going fast now. ^^
More Faolain progress! :D The most fun part about Sylvari costumes are ofcourse the leafy things, and boy, does Faolain have a bunch of those.
I worked on her pompous shoulder 'armor' today, which required me to sculpt it entirely out of Worbla. I'd never worked with worbla this way before (usually I'm the 'just melt it over some mold'-type) so that was quite a lot of fun! First I sculpted the biggest leaves at the back (pic 1) and the neckband. The next picture (2) shows the Worbla leaves before and after shaping. Quite the difference, don't you think?
Then it was time for detailing, sculpting, trying it on a thousand times to see if the shape was right, more sculpting... etc. The third picture shows the details on the neckband and the fourth is when I was trying it on for shape. :)
Last picture (5) is the way it is now :D It still misses a few details (and colour, of course), but it's almost done. :D
(It's amazing how my face or hair didn't change between the fourth and fifth picture at all even though there were a few hours between those pictures *__*)
I promised I'd show some progress of the Sylvari costumes, so here we are! :D
First picture is Faolain's skirt all cut out and pinned into place for the first time. It took a lot of tweaking and even more patterning to get all the right shapes, but at last I could cut the materials and swoosh around in her epic skirt <3 It weighs a ton *__*
The next picture is of the front flaps of the skirt all cut out into the butterfly pattern she has. I'll be sandwiching another fabric inbetween the layers so light can shine through (since Faolain's dress also lights up in-game). Yes, there will be lights in the dress as well. :)
Third row of pictures is a little sneak peak of what I'll be wearing underneath. First is my shirt, that'll function as skincolour for everything that is not my face. It's really strange to wear a shirt that also covers your hands xD Then next to that is the underskirt. I didn't want to make an 'ordinary' crinoline, because we are making Sylvari after all. So I made a lot of "petals" from chiffon and layered those. So, if my dress for some reason shows the underskirt, it'll still be all flowery goodness underneath. :)
Last row is Caithe's hair so far. I swear it's trying to kill me, but we're getting there, slowly.
So finally things are coming along and hopefully the process will speed up significantly in the coming weeks. Not much time left, but we've got all our methods finally figured out so it's just hard work ahead of us. :D I'm excited! Can't wait to finally FINALLY wear Faolain. <3
