Hey, I was looking for reference material on Pit's costume when I came across your cosplay of him and I just wanted to say that it looks brilliant!! I was wondering if you could help me with the pattern you used. Did you use any specific examples or templates for other similar clothing? Because I've been staring at several cosplays as well as art and I can't really figure out what goes where and how. Any help you could give me would be highly appreciated!! Thank you :)
Hi! Thank you so much!
Pit's outfit is based in Greek history, so the best advice I can give you is to look at ancient clothing references, particularly the Greek chiton. I used the chiton as a base, and then used a technique called draping to get the folds in the fabric to sit the right way. There's not really a pattern because it's all rectangular pieces of fabric! Modern tailoring was not invented yet in ancient Greece, haha. Besides that, I would advise researching what kind of fabric you'll want to use. Synthetic fabrics are not historically accurate and also don't quite behave the way that i.e. linens do. The weight and structure of a fabric determine the way that it drapes and moves, and to get those nice pleats, you'll need a fabric with enough 'body'.
Hope that helps, but if you have any other questions, just let me know!
