sherlock holmes things I think about sometimes:

  • “Sterndale sprang to his feet. ‘I believe that you are the devil himself!’ he cried. Holmes smiled at the compliment.” HEE
  • “Holmes, who loathed every form of society with his whole Bohemian soul, remained in our lodgings in Baker Street, buried among his old books, and alternating from week to week between cocaine and ambition, the drowsiness of the drug, and the fierce energy of his own keen nature.” (he’s so relatable tbh)
  • “Watson. Come at once if convenient. If inconvenient, come all the same.” (bestie moment)
  • “The good Watson had at that time deserted me for a wife, the only selfish action I can recall in our association. I was alone.” (bestie you’re so clingy honestly <3 )
  • “I never can resist a touch of the dramatic.” (WE KNOW)
  • “…you are a conductor of light. Some people without possessing genius have a remarkable power of stimulating it. I confess, my dear fellow, that I am very much in your debt.”
  • “In his tweed suit and cloth cap he looked like any other tourist upon the moor, and he had contrived, with that catlike love of personal cleanliness which was one of his characteristics, that his chin should be as smooth and his linen as perfect as if he were in Baker Street.” (Holmes gets compared to cats very frequently I love it)

One day in early spring [Holmes] had so far relaxed as to go for a walk with me in the Park, where the first faint shoots of green were breaking out upon the elms, and the sticky spear-heads of the chestnuts were just beginning to burst into their five-fold leaves. For two hours we rambled about together, in silence for the most part, as befits two men who know each other intimately.

Further discoveries in the the early P.G. Wodehouse files include the time he heard Sherlock Holmes would be coming back from the dead, and wrote a song parody about it:

When Sherlock left his native Strand, such groans were seldom heard; With sobs the Public’s frame was rent: with tears its eye was blurred.     But the optimists reflected     That he might be resurrected: It formed our only theme of conversation. We asked each other, Would he be? And if so, How and where? We went about our duties with a less dejected air.     And they say that a suggestion     Of a Parliamentary question Was received with marked approval by the nation.   And Sherlock, Sherlock, he’s in town again,   Sir Conan has discovered him, and offers to explain.     The explanation may be thin,     But bless you! we don’t care a pin,   If he’ll but give us back our Sherlock.

I am going to fight everyone who has turned Sherlock Holmes into this edgy, rude, arse of a character. This man is kind, caring, sympathetic, and knows how to interact with people (even if he'd prefer to avoid doing so).

I get the whole genuis-who- can't -relate- to -the -way- normal -people- function, but y'know what, he's not condescending about it. He doesnt necessarily think himeself to be above the masses. He admits to being beaten without throwing a tantrum about it.

Being a genuis doesn't mean or necessitate being cold and unfeeling
