Hi, I'm Caity and I just graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. . . I LOVE it. I'm 22 years old and currently looking for a school to begin my teaching journey. I am writing this blog to share my thoughts about teaching and other random thoughts! :)

Mathemajic! That will be the day when I can do mental math this fast. I can barely do it now.

I'm in a math methods class right now, hence all the math posts. ;)

"Remember that time..."

I absolutely love this “memory jar” idea. Throughout the year, record special days or funny things that occurred onto slips of paper and store them in a jar. At the end of the year(or whenever you need a pick-me-up), read through them all and enjoy!
Such a great idea for the classroom!

Thinkfinity!

http://www.thinkfinity.org/home   - great resource and materials for teachers. Make sure to check out the content partners at the bottom - which includes MORE lesson plans.  It is great because you can find any lesson by searching topic, grade levels, standards, and activities.

I had to read this book for a class. . .

Now I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing.  However, I did get a pretty good idea about what the author was trying to say.

His idea was that the achievement gap is increasing and that even though schools are not supposed to be segregated.. They are! Brown vs. The board of Education, made it illegal for public schools to separate black and white students.  This changed for awhile but today I think it is often true that many many schools are still segregated.  However, today the segregation might be by choice. People prefer to live in areas where they are other people similar to them. This could mean race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or other reasons.  So if this is true how do we fix the large achievement gap that is happening?
