been sitting on this one for a while! Thank you @newlight30 for commissioning me this for her fic, Hidden Secret! This is specifically for Chapter 31!

so I saw this dress and it punched my ‘Persephone dress!!’ button really hard, and after some mild encouragement (it really doesn’t take much) from the FH people, put Chloe in it for the Queen of Hell feel. 

give me two characters who are each other’s home. two characters who feel completely safe, warm and protected in each other’s presence, and who are completely respected by the other. two people who, on some level or another, were missing that little extra spark they needed to feel fully confident and accepted as their whole selves until the other came along. they don’t “fix each other” or “make each other better”–they give the other the support they need to build on what was already inside them. sure they might kiss, or make goo-goo eyes, but they can also just…talk, and make each other laugh and smile, because for once they feel comfortable enough in themselves and with each other to be vulnerable in that way. two complete people who finally find someone to share all of themselves with. and no matter what they do or how far they go, they’ll always have each other to come back home to. 

fallen angel of music?

Speaking of Lucifer and musicians - I think it’s important that feeling he failed Delilah in 1x01 (and the ways that he didn’t understand how helping her out as a musician could go wrong for her bc celestial beings are really naive, simplistic, and often downright stupid about humans) motivates him to getting into solving crimes. Overall his interactions with human musicians are some of the most lovely on the show - the tandem piano playing with Father Frank, the hilarious dueling “I Will Survive” song with Axara:

There’s a positive ethic there from the very beginning, even when he’s at his worst Princely Celestial Asshat phase early on. I think he connected to human musicians more genuinely than to the people he was having sex with for a long time, honestly? Though oftentimes there would be overlap in those categories lol. I just think bonding with/feeling with and performing with human musicians was one of the only ways he really emotionally connected to humans before Chloe.

I think it’s also interesting that he doesn’t compose his own music. There’s some headcanoning to be done about the unique human capacity to create in the midst of feelings of alienation and sadness that he perhaps admires but doesn’t necessarily share.

I imagine that, prior to humans, the only composers were angels. And all their music, though doubtlessly beautiful, must have been about perfection and glory and wonder. Not praising complexity and pain the way humans can and do.

I mean… Eve thinks of him as freeing her with his temptations in the Garden, and bully for her. That’s a legit pov on things. But he *did* knock Dad’s new favorite project into the mud… I highly doubt that the person he was did that entirely for altruistic reasons or something. There had to be a tangle of emotions going on there.

Including the fact that, at a time, the only beings outside of God’s favor living in the muck were him and then Lilith. So he comes along and gives Eve and Adam a helping hand into the mess too…

I think it’s interesting to him perhaps to find that not only is he not alone in angry/complicated/messed up relationship with God but that humans can sing that pain and loss and anger so beautifully, can turn it into art in a way that perhaps he and other angels cannot… or at least haven’t yet for billions of years.

I imagine that, once they started disobeying God, humans both fell MUCH further than he ever anticipated–we don’t just merely flip off God like he did, we torture and abuse and murder and rape each other–but also were capable of truly awe-inspiring beauty as well.

If he’d been subconsciously (and wrongly) accepting blame for everything people put off on him about being the source of human evil, I imagine feeling like he had a hand in that beauty too would be something positive - and humans can sing the feelings of sadness and brokenness he cannot (?) turn into beauty in the same way.

I absolutely love this <3 I adore every interaction Lucifer has with musical people on the show (and that ... contrast with Pierce “singing” while “playing” his guitar).

My headcanon differs slightly in that I like to think, as an angel, Lucifer did compose the most beautiful music (because everything he did then was best and brightest and most beautiful) but it was all in praise of God. It was hallelujahs and psalms and hark the herald angels singing--intrinsically and irrevocably and exclusively connected to God. 

Oh! Oh, ow, what if part of Lucifer’s rebellion was composing music that wasn’t sacred, music that inspired and asked questions and deviated from the party line? (What if it started with experimentation that became the music of the stars?) What if, instead of oration, Lucifer’s music was what led to war?

Then he Fell and was punished, and part of the punishment was the absence of music in Hell; taking from him something that was once precious and ensuring he could find no solace in it. In Hell, music is always out of tune (and if Lucifer has perfect pitch, wouldn’t that be a nightmare?). What if, when he first starts escaping for his little breaks to Earth, music is something he has to relearn? Almost like someone having to relearn language or motor skills after a trauma? And, as you say, humans have this connection to music, something he even maybe sees as his, but they aren’t bound by the same rules angels were bound by (and wasn’t that always part of Lucifer’s frustration?). But composing is something that still hurts too much and is still too broken (fitting in with Lucifer’s Known Issues nicely).
