I referred to something as a "real Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra moment" in conversation with someone who has never seen TNG, and let me tell you, that was a real Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra moment
I know Lwaxana was originally written as a horny cougar joke but I kinda love the idea that betazoids have a different reproductive curve than humans and reach peak fertility in their forties or fifties. There would be a whole cultural idea around having to have at least a few decades of life experience and a well established career before you're even considered ready to raise a child.
All this to say that Lwaxana having Deanna in her twenties was probably a huge scandal. Like, this girl from this incredibly prestigious family having the equivalent of a teenage pregnancy and then, because the father is a human the child is basically disabled as well. Prime gossip material.
I believe that is why Lwaxana is like that. She had to learn to not give a shit about other people's opinion very young and she became the legend of a federation ambassador and the woman who will live her best life no matter what just to show them.
tom, harry, and b’elanna being the people in charge of the actual operation of voyager itself is very funny it’s such a chaotic combination. tom’s at the helm all gas no brakes barely paying attention to where they’re going sending memes to the senior staff group chat in one hand iced coffee in the other. b’elanna’s down in engineering holding everything together with duct tape and leola root updating the bridge crew every five minutes like “so if you want to hail another ship first you have to open and close the cargo bay airlocks three times DON’T ASK WHY but this increases the efficiency of our power usage by 15%”. harry’s in the midst of all this at operations thinking four steps ahead of everyone else as he micromanages the ship’s increasingly convoluted systems repeating some calming vulcan mantra tuvok taught him hyperaware of the fact that one slip up and the ship will explode. dream team <3
The part in 'innocence' where Tuvok hands a scared 8 year old a gun and leaves after giving her instructions which are literally JUST "aim like this and press here to fire" is so interesting for his characterization because it isn't ILLOGICAL (she needs protection from a potentially life-threatening entity and he needs to leave for a moment) but it's also something that I don't think most other characters would think to do because. You know. It's giving a phaser to a child.

Remembering how in Star Trek Voyager Chakotay kept crashing shuttles and Harry Kim kept dying and then there was an episode where the two of them went out in a shuttle and then everyone else crashed and died

#shout out to janeway who like vulcan french kissed on the bridge#and shout out to tuvok who went with it
Tuvok & Janeway are the kind of friends who can just make out with each other for a scheme and it means nothing to them.
And Tuvok is so ride or die for Janeway that he’ll do it without protest, despite how:
1. He doesn’t want to make out in public. He’s a reserved Vulcan man, damn it!
2. He’s MARRIED
3. He’s a telepath from a race that tries to suppress emotions and act from logic, and he’s having to get a head full of JANEWAY, who is… Very much not a calm emotionless person. He probably has to take the mental equivalent of a long shower every time she pulls this kind of trick and fills his head with her nonsense.
It’s like every week something weird happens.
I can’t even begin to imagine how many episodes would be improved just by Picard giving a stumbling, awkward exposition of the episode’s plot to the crew
ALL episodes could be improved if we saw Picard’s awkward, stumbling exposition to the crew of what’s going on that episode. In fact, I really wanna see that.
“Attention crew, this is your captain speaking. You may notice my voice sounds different, and uh, long story short, I’m 12 again. Another transporter thing, we should really get that looked at. Anywhooo if a little blonde kid starts ordering you around, don’t ignore him, because it’s me. Ok. Bye.”
“Okay so, you may have noticed large parts of the ship transforming into some kind of Mayan temple, and Commander Data running around and talking in several different voices. We are aware of the situation and taking steps to restore things to normal.”
“Attention crew, the entire senior staff is leaving to go find Commander Data in 1870’s San Francisco. We don’t know when we will return. Please direct all questions to Lieutenant Worf. He’s staying for obvious reasons. Picard out.”
“Attention crew, Lwaxana Troi will be beaming aboard shortly. That is all.”
happy Tuvok Tuesday, lads

He's been edited to be wearing black sunglasses as he looks at the viewer. Text above and below in a yellow to blue gradient says, "It is indeed Tuvok Tuesday." /end image description]

Star Trek: Voyager The Haunting of Deck Twelve
STAR TREK II: the wrath of khan (1982)
I have to tell my “I was there, Gandalf” story about this:
Before Wrath of Khan originally came out in theaters, there was a rumor going around that Spock dies in the movie. WHAT??? So then, we go see the movie, full of trepidation–and Spock dies in the very first scene! WHAT!!!
And THEN, turns out the Kobayashi Maru mission was just a simulator test, and Spock gets up, and everything’s fine. And Kirk saunters in here and says this line, and Spock gives that face and the giant LAUGH OF RELIEF that went up in the theater! Haaaahahahaha so this is where that rumor came from, LOL, ahhhh, now we can all relax.
…And then we watched the rest of the movie.
