Hello, tangledbea! :) I saw your post about Nothing Left To Lose from Tangled losing the Emmy to Suffragette City from Animaniacs, and I completely agree with your post. Animaniacs is a good show and Suffragette City is educational! But in regards to music, I feel like Nothing Left To Lose is just on a completely different level! The composition of the song is so grand, the emotion/tension in the song is there, and two of the best singers are singing (love Jeremy Jordan). The song overall is amazinggggg and it's the stuff that you'd hear in big Broadway productions or great movie musicals. I was so so so sad to hear that the song lost the Emmy, and I honestly still can't believe that it happened. I feel bad for the Tangled crew who wrote and worked hard on that song because they were so robbed :(

There are legitimately songs that were up for the nomination that I wouldn't have minded if they'd won, but to me, "Suffragette City" isn't even the best song in the new Animaniacs, let alone one worthy of winning an award over Nothing Left to Lose.

They even showed the best part of NLTL's animation in the clip (not that the voters were voting on the clip itself) while reminding us that SC devolves away from being about Suffragettes and towards "give toons the vote" which is... not educational, and not really a thing.

I've been disappointed by a lost win before, but this is ridiculous.

Nothing Left to Lose did not win its Emmy. uvu

I don’t know what beat it but they were robbed.

It was "Suffrgette City" from Animaniacs which... look, I love Animaniacs but that song did not deserve to win. It felt like the Academy trying to win brownie points by picking the woke song (and it's legit not even that woke).

"Nothing Left to Lose" was definitely robbed.

Can we just take a moment to just honor and appreciate the orchestration in "Nothing Left To Lose"? Like yes, the vocals is breathtakingly beautiful, but the climbing and expanding of the background music throughout especially the growing added tension of string instruments & gong (?) once Cass' responds back to Varian, and that build just keeps flowing erratically and yet effortlessly. It's just bound to win that freakin' Emmy just from the orchestration alone.

Honestly, until I listened to the soundtrack version, instead of the episode version, I did not fully appreciate "Nothing Left to Lose." It absolutely blew me away how deep and rich the orchestration is!

Was no one going to tell me that "Wind In My Hair" is on MusicNotes, or was I just supposed to stumble upon it thinking that "Nothing Left To Lose" is Emmy-nominated and perhaps maybe had a score up in order to find it....

Oh, you want sheet music? You should go to Tuescribers. they have:

And that's just since the last time I checked, several months ago! Plus, they take requests!

When varian sings “you have so much to hold on to” what does class have to hold on to. She doesn’t consider rapunzel her friend and she felt betrayed so what does she have to hold on to

Rapunzel is still trying to get Cassandra to be her friend again, plus, her dad still loves her, and clearly even Varian wants her to come back to the good side.

You have to remember that this is coming from Varian, who thought he'd lost everything, but with a tweaking of his attitude, he found out that he still had friends and could earn everyone's trust back. In his experience, it's difficult to go too far with that group of people.

Just for fun (and sorry if you’ve been asked this before), but do you think Tangled has a good shot at an Emmys win? ‘Cause it’d be great to have one last awards hurrah for the show, don’t you think?

Well, let's see what it's up against, shall we?:

  • “Monster” - Adventure Time: Distant Lands OBSIDIAN
  • “Nothing Left To Lose” - Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
  • “Something in the Air” - Elena of Avalor
  • “Such a Beautiful Day” - Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe
  • “Suffragette Song” - Animaniacs

I'm not going to pretend that I know all of these songs (or even half of them), but I've heard "Suffragette Song," and I know the music style in both P&F and Elena... so, yeah! I'd say "Nothing Left to Lose" has a decent shot!

As for Kevin Kliesch's nomination for the score...? He's been nominated for the score every year for at least one award (usually the Annies), and he's only won once, in 2017, for the BMI TV Music Awards. So I hope he wins, but historically he keeps not winning despite his annual nomination.

The Daytime Emmy Awards Children’s Programming and Animation ceremony will be presented in a stand-alone show streaming on the Emmy® OTT platform on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 8p.m ET.

Why do you think crossing the line/nothing Left To Lose is so popular

Like don’t get me wrong I love those songs too but I am just wondering

Crossing the Line: Eden Espinosa is a fantastic singer, and who hasn't ever felt empowered by breaking free of something they don't want to be doing, or at least daydreamed about it? It's a power fantasy of taking your own life into your own hands. Especially when you take the unused verse into consideration. (Plus, if you're a fan of Cass, you're happy for her, and if you're into Cass, you may find her particularly hot in that scene.)

Nothing Left to Lose is a duet between two of the best belters on the show, and it's got incredible animation. There's a lot of strong emotion, between the pleading and the confusion and the anger. Plus, it includes a fan favorite character who people had been waiting a season and a half to hear sing again.
