But not really! Not really, knowing McCartney. That’s the sort of thing he would do.
I remember seeing him on Mike Yarwood and even as a big fan, I was thinking “Oh dear, I think he’s gone too far up the mums and dads, even for me.” And so I never bought the record. But I completely defend his right to do it! And to be the biggest selling single in Britain up to that point!?
That’s because people who never bought records, bought that. Which for music fans was a bit of a sickener, but there you go.
That’s part of what McCartney can do: He can tap into a consciousness that other musicians don’t even know exists.
