Thinking too hard about DSS again and debating to myself whether they'd wind up annoying their friends to death with how much they admire each other.

glances at canon

Yeah.

Wild how Yusaku started on this when he still didn't know Revolver's identity. Out here putting the enemy he's been after for years in higher regard than the charisma duelists who are bothersome but he's still on neutral terms with.

They're so enamoured with each other in ways that goes beyond the romantic lens, and it's so great. Who else is Ryoken so openly praising the strength of on multiple occasions? Who else is Yusaku acknowledging several times as someone powerful, both in strength and will? Dang near completely unprompted every time too. I'm insane about these lads, but not as insane as they are about each other.

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️‼️

lemme just-

They're good and correct tags you gotta include them! These two really are just Like That even without knowledge of their shared history. Let me just take a minute to compliment the strenght and tenacity of my enemy. They're so ridiculous, they make me want to chew drywall.

Arc V had no buisness going as hard as it did sometimes

The first duel between Shun and Sora having everyone horrified at how dangerous and destructive Solid Vision can be, later paying off in the XYZ Arc? The Synchro Dimensions rigid classism causing a criminal to be turned into a literal machine through invasive surgery, and the antagonist attempting to do the same to Yuya??? That time Dennis commited suicide and almost everyone around him cheered because they thought it was a party trick???? Academias entire premise of child soldiers that continues to go so far that one of the teachers basically tells his student to kill him and move on, and everyone just accepts it???

Arc V has such an amazing way of jumping between “oh this kid wants to make people happy with smiles:)))” to “this kid is forced to faced the horrible realities of war as he sees people starve, the aftermath of a military strike and basically having a target painted on his back for the entire show :)))”

i know most people don’t like him but i kinda live for leo akaba as the penultimate villain of arc v specifically because of both how fucked up he is but also how irrelevant he is. sure it was his solid vision technology that inadvertently birthed a society obsessed with blood sport but at the same time he was basically a bystander in all the tragedy that ensued when zarc couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. and once again in arc v we see that he’s a genius in every respect, that he managed to organize a multidimensional war assault with the express purpose of erasing zarc and restoring both his daughter and home, but once again he’s basically powerless to do any of that when both the protagonists and antagonists pay even a fraction of attention to him.

But regardless of how useless he ends up being, he’s also legitimately fucked up. He straight up indoctrinated the fusion dimensions entire dueling population and turned them into heavily conditioned child soldiers, released them into the xyz dimension where they basically destroyed the world and cleansed the population, he was aware of the class warfare and inequality in the synchro dimension and set roget there as a puppet specifically because he knew he could take advantage of it to further his goal of harvesting the population, and the next dimension he had his eyes on for his carding scheme was the standard dimension, where he left his wife and child.

And all of this was for the express purpose of reviving one person who chose to sacrifice herself to save the world.

There’s actually no indication that the people sacrificed to the arc reactor would have actually been revived (that was a lie he told edo, and the only reason all the carded people came back was because reira basically sacrificed herself to re-split zarc and then fuse the dimensions again as a way to prevent his reincarnation). He lied to everyone about what he was doing because he literally does not see them as people, to him the only person who even exists is ray and himself because everyone else is just a phantom of people who once existed to him. He doesn’t care about any of the tragedy he causes and literally keeps the bracelet girls in pods where he says to their faces that he’s going to sacrifice their lives to revive his daughter because they aren’t people to him, just fragments of someone who once existed.

Arc-V’s best villain is definitely zarc at the end of the day, but man if leo akaba doesn’t hold a place in my war criminal heart.

while i was trying to wade through the large amounts of people trying to leave the central subway station, everyone abruptly came to a halt in front of the subway turnstiles. two french girls had misunderstood the tap-out process, and one of them was now stuck behind the gate. as i was wracking my brain on how to explain the tap-in tap-out process of the milan metro to both of them with my rudimentary french while they both got increasingly upset at the closed gate between them, a young teenager suddenly pushed me to the side.

i was just about to give him my most scathing disgruntled glare when he took out his ticket and, after realizing they had no common language, started gesticulating wildly in front of the french girl left behind. he pointed at the ticket, then at her, and very seriously said: “on three, we go.” she nodded, and after he counted to three, holding up his fingers so there could be no confusion, they sprinted through the gate together, giggling profusely afterwards as if they had just pulled off the heist of the century,

it was just a small moment during the morning commute. but i realized then and there that the time i had spent trying to intellectualize the problem and wondering if my lack of language skills would be awkward the situation could have already been resolved. and that while i had been mad about being pushed aside, the teenager got it exactly right: no questions, no fear or shyness, just direct action to help where you can and rushing there to do so. i think about him every time now when i run to lift someone’s pram or ask a lost looking person if they need my help despite the fear of being rude. on three, we go.
