S 18 | Uli Budde

A minimal table created by Berlin-based designer Uli Budde for Thonet. Reminiscent of an infinite loop, the linear tubular steel frame forms a pendant corresponding to the tabletop and the central motif of the circle. From the onset, the form of the circle was very important for the design. The motif of the circle in this design is an ode to the first Thonet bentwood classics. Linear elements are also essential for the design. The tubular steel frame results from a closed loop, hinting at Marcel Breuer’s layout of lines that was typical for the Bauhaus and perceived as infinite. Based on these two geometric forms, the table reveals ever-new perspectives. This dynamics gives it a spontaneous and young character as well as a classic one.

A minimal stool created by Seoul-based designers Studio Millionroses. The stool consists of four pieces with angular cuts so that hardware is not necessary to assemble the items. In addition, the outside grain of the wood remains seamless, with the side of the stool visibly showing the joints. The second horizontal piece serves not only to provide stability, but allows users to easily grab the stool, and store pieces underneath as well.

Emeco | Nendo

Japanese studio Nendo has released a new version of its environmentally friendly SU stool for Emeco, adding an interchangeable cork seat to the design.

The material is lightweight, resilient and can be harvested every ten years without causing lasting damage to the trees.

As with previous versions of the SU stool, the seat has a contoured surface, and is supported by four anodised aluminium legs.

Emeco describes the cork seat as "tactile with a feeling of warmth".

The American furniture company launched the SU range – named after the Japanese word for "plain" or "unadorned" – in 2014, with a focus on eco-friendly materials.
