Horses are a subject dear to Bill's heart, as he had owned them for over 20 years, until 1993 when his art career demanded his total attention. These days he just paints horses. His intimate knowledge of their anatomy and characteristic actions shows.
Bernie Fuchs (American, 1932 - 2009)
“It’s a horse race, anything can happen!”
Mr. Fuchs (pronounced Fewks) was a prominent member of a group of illustrators called the Westport school, and later as a founder of the Illustrators Workshop. Mr. Fuchs’s prep work was intense. For the sake of accuracy, he often traveled to the actual locales portrayed.
