Do you have any headcanons about Lacy?

  • lovely kid but as she grows into her teenage years, she starts feeling doubts about silena's hero status and that leads her to put up emotional walls, making her seem a bit bitchy at times
  • comes from a shitty home, so eventually drew --understanding both the home situation and the silena thing-- invited her to live with her and looks after her until she can go off on her own
  • had an unexpected friendship with nico at some point, not bc of camp but bc she's friends with cleo in BAG and I hc nico and cleo to be good friends, so she brought them together
  • she got braces bc she felt aphrodite kids had to be 'perfect' and she felt she didn't fit if she had crooked teeth (chb and its cabin stereotyping)
  • loves piper but thought she spoke out of turn when she sort of compared herself with silena in TLH
  • had a super secret crush on leo bc her type are loser nerds (affectionate)
  • can always find the right present for people, no matter where she goes, she'll find the right clothing item, book, perfume, whatever it is the person will like, she'll find it

The way Drew's portrayed as an antagonist doesn't really sit right with me. When I was younger I just accepted it at face value, but then I started thinking about it - Drew, Silena, the war, everything - and I think it's a lot more nuanced.

Drew is allowed to be angry at her sister - who she was presumably close to and trusted, as her head counselor and the one next in line for head counselor - for betraying them! Yes, Silena died a hero, and that redeemed her in the eyes of many, but that doesn't change what she did!

And the thing is - she died. Drew (and the rest of the cabin) can't get closure. They can't talk to Silena and ask her why she did what she did, or yell at her, or do anything. She's dead.

As of TLH, it had also only been four or five months since the war. Eventually Drew's anger might calm down, and she might come to terms with Silena's memory and what she did. But it's only been a few months. Her emotions haven't calmed yet.

I also can't believe that Drew is the only one in the cabin who - supposedly - absolutely hates Silena and everybody else forgives her wholeheartedly. There's like fifteen Aphrodite kids; can we assume that they have multiple nuanced feelings? That, say, Mitchell is still struggling to reconcile Silena the traitor with the Silena he thought he knew, and Lacy just wishes she could talk to Silena one more time and ask her why, and that one eleven-year-old doesn't care what Silena did and just wants her big sister back?

Like. It's nuanced and it's complicated. Add to this that Drew immediately became head counselor in the middle of the war when Silena died right after the revelation that she was a spy and, well, it's a mess.

if rick hadn't been a yes-like-other-girls hating coward, the true family issue in HoO wouldn't have been some boring curse in the hephaestus cabin (which added nothing much to their cabin lore tbh), it would have been about the mini civil war in the aphrodite cabin. I will start this by saying I adore silena's character, but mostly bc she was a lot more interesting than she is given credit for

I absolutely refuse to believe every aphrodite kid was okay with silena! makes no fucking sense at all, she was worse than luke, she didn't just betray them the one time and then became the enemy, she passed info to the other side for years!!!!!!! I cannot think of a single more traitorous thing than to spy on your family and friends!! to sell them out!!

and they were all like "well but she died for us so whatever"??? by that reckoning, then nobody hated luke anymore after he died, bc y'know he died for them all like jesus or some other rubbish like that? they were both on the wrong (good intentions, I'm not denying that, but they hurt people and resulted in their fellow demigods dying)

the aphrodite cabin should've been in chaos after the war. nobody would trust them with anything, they're already known as the bad side of the rumour mill, imagine after this?? and then piper says some shit like "silena knew what family was", piper, mi ciela, 1) you didn't know her; 2) she didn't betray you; 3) silena forgot what family was for a long, long while, she's a crappy example to compare yourself to!

I don't doubt eventually they'd have understood silena, like luke, didn't mean to cause such harm, they were young and fooled by a higher power, and they did love their family and friends, but that wouldn't happen less than 6 months after the event

and yes, ofc, self promo: drew and piper talking about silena (a long while after everything); two conversations between silena and luke

Honestly, Piper challenging Drew and Drew being intimidated by her was bullshit. Drew had been at Camp Half-Blood for years and had survived the Titan War a few months ago. Even if she wasn't one for questing, she has far more training and experience due to the war, not to mention her Charmspeak is more refined than Piper's. Also, I really wish Drew had said she was with her cabin mates for whenever they talked about how they missed the friends they had who died during the Titan War, all while considering Silena a hero even though her being a traitor and a spy had gotten those same friends killed. She asks her cabin mates why they would have a problem with Drew acting like a tyrant when they treat Silena like a hero, even though she willingly joined the side that wanted to help a cannibalistic tyrant rise and the tipping point of her guilt was when her boyfriend died, not when other people died previously, and didn't come clean about being the mole until she was dying. She rebukes them for hailing Silena as a hero for entering a suicide fight against the drakon when trying to help fix a problem she contributed to making was the bare minimum of being a decent person.

hot take: drew tanaka was completely valid in how she reacted to silena’s death. drew is often criticized by both piper and the fandom for calling silena beauregard a traitor and forbidding anyone in the cabin from talking about her. because we only see how she turned back to the demigods’ side in the end, we easily forgive silena, and we want to attack anyone who refuted that. but not only did drew have to go through the process of grief of losing her sister, she also had to process the betrayal she felt that silena’s been spying on them for the enemy for who knows how long? it’s not as simple as “oh, she repented in the end so she’s a perfect character”. silena’s an imperfect person who makes mistakes. she only really regrets her support when beckendorf dies — sure, she feels a bit guilty, but she only really backtracks once that happens. and the entire time, she was still wearing the spy bracelet. and drew had to deal with that betrayal and grief within the span of an hour, and not only that, but had to maintain a cabin full of kids? she was totally valid!

#imo most campers still think luke and silena were traitors#like ofc as readers who know percy’s very biased pov we#think of them in a much more favourable light but honestly? i bet most campers would still lynch silena for her betrayal#like she ONLY comes back when they murder her boyfriend! if i were her sibling i’d be soooo pissed off#not to mention she’s not even given proper reasons to go to the dark side#‘luke was handsome’ my sister in christ you’ve a weaker moral backbone than a politician#i ASSUME she also wanted better conditions for demigods but the books don’t even state that#into the tags#silena beauregard#drew tanaka

i know a girl from a lonely street by makemelovely another very good characterisation of not only Drew but the entire Aphrodite cabin as well. it’s a bit short but i still highly recommend

one of the very first drew fics i read was sidekicks to a story no one asked you to write by book_addict99 and in all honesty was one of the many reasons why i started to like drew and adore her character even more I loved the perception of love in this one

past, present, future by rosegoldblood i just read this earlier this morning actually it has drew & nico friendship i do not need to explain further

those r my faves i’m sure there’s plenty more but these r the only ones i remember atm </3 we need more drew fics in this fandom

Carter/Percy: 7/10

They’d be an interesting couple, no doubt. I think Percy would be a tad exasperated by Carter’s lack of impulsivity. But Percy loves nerds and Carter loves badasses, so they’re definitely each other’s types

Drew/Sadie: 9/10

I hc Drew as a little bit older than in canon, so perhaps as adults it’d be better. Still, Drew’s an og mean girl and Sadie’s a bit of a bitch too, they would be destructive and happily in love. Taking off a point bc they’d bully people mercilessly, but we love them for it

Jaz/Sadie: 4/10

Canon Sadie likes calm people, but I think eventually she’d find them limiting, and would go for someone who was more of a challenge... but some points bc they’d be the coolest aunts ever (I don’t see Sadie wanting children), I feel like they’d spoil their nephews and nieces rotten, family gatherings would only begin after they arrived

Which riordanverse-greek god I’d assign the norse kiddies:

  • Ares!Mallory
  • Zeus!TJ jr
  • Whoever the goddess of balance is to Samirah
  • Demeter!Magnus (I know he’s Apollo by default but no, thank you)

I’m afraid I’m awful with norse mythology and the fours gods I remember are much more imprinted in my mind as the marvel version than the original myths (or riordanverse editions anyway)

  • Annabeth would be Odin’s child, I think. I feel she’d sit you down with powerpoint presentations
  • Loki!Nico would be interesting although not truly accurate
  • TJ’s dad should be Thalia’s, she’d also react if anyone says “I challenge you”, also Clarisse’s
  • Frey!Will
  • Drew and Silena could be Freya’s daughters
  • Frigg!Jason is that how she’s called?
