not gonna write an essay in op's tags but regarding whether adam or ronan said 'i love you' first. definitely adam. ronan was probably first to acknowledge to himself that he was in love, but all the moves ronan made in regards to his feelings for adam were unspoken: he left adam a mixtape and lotion, he secretly paid some of adam's rent and allowed adam to believe it was gansey, he realizes adam knows how he feels but he never pushes adam, he kisses adam for the first time without saying a word and then leaves to let adam contemplate. etc etc the list goes on. on the other hand adam is motionless until he's fully struck by the realization that he wants to be with ronan and then it's full speed ahead. he knows about ronan's feelings fairly early on but doesn't begin to take them seriously or examine what ronan makes him feel until they get closer in bllb (when adam realizes he hadn't truly known ronan at all). he lets ronan stare from afar and sleep on his bedroom floor above st agnes and never mentions any of the gifts from ronan and he accepts ronan's lingering touch on his hands and face. even their first kiss is about adam acknowledging to himself that he could've prevented the kiss at any point over their months long game of flirtations, that he could have refused ronan's affection, because adam saw the kiss coming from miles and months away, but he still allowed it to happen. which catapults him immediately into his breakdown with gansey over what love means and how you know you're in love, because now that adam knows he enjoyed kissing ronan, he needs to be sure what he feels is real and lasting. and everything gansey says about love confirms it for adam, which is why adam makes the move later that night at the barns by kissing ronan. their first kiss is ronan asking a question, and their second kiss is adam's answer. he knows he wants to build something lasting together after talking about love. all this is to say that while ronan is sure of his feelings, they're unspoken but obvious. he doesn't always vocalize his feelings. whereas adam needs to figure himself out first, but then he has a conversation about love once and is ready for a longterm committed relationship. so he kisses ronan after he has come to the conclusion that he's in love with ronan. and once adam is sure of something he goes all in, and he's sure about ronan. BASICALLY he probably didn't wait very long at all to tell ronan he loved him, because he would have assumed that kissing ronan again was the confession itself to the question ronan had posed by kissing him in the first place. and ronan probably almost drove off of the road

no but genuinely i think one of the main reasons maggie cut adam povs and cut him off from all the other characters is because she needed a way to stop him from immediately figuring everything out. like she fully had to put a leash on him. because even when left to his own devices he 1. managed to figure out exactly what the dreamers were doing to the ley lines 2. figured out what the long term impact of this would be 3. hacked into a government database 4. connected dots that the moderators hadn’t even managed to connect yet and 5. figured out the cult stuff before dreamteam even had an inkling as to what was going on (and he hasn’t even MET bryde yet). like can you imagine what he could’ve done if maggie had allowed him to be in full contact with declan? if he had been given access to any of declan’s contacts and information? if he had been in contact with ronan? bryde even said it. ronan knew the real reason he kept shutting adam out was because he knew that adam would figure it all out and do something about it. he was literally too smart for this book. all he would’ve needed was the mic and a basic set of tools and he would’ve been running around sorting everything out before the book could even begin. maggie fully had to put a hand on his chest and be like oh no you don’t! get back inside! you’re going to ruin it!
