Completed Inktober 2024! Last time I did this was in 2018, with some dinky little doodles in a notebook. Now I'm learning digital 💪
Prompts were from the QZGS rarepair week for 2024 and 2023. Next year perhaps I'll continue going down the list. I tried to have a specific area/skill I wanted to work on with each day.

5) "fragile": [RS] This is my favorite shot of the Rainbow Sea OP, which is already such a banger full of symbolism and narrative. The way this moment is directed to make you think you're watching Maidang himself, until the moment he punches and the mirror shatters and you realize—oh, his Rainbow Stone was on the wrong wrist, it was a reflection all along. Timed to the music, it's so excellently done...
9) "wait": [GFS] X waits, alone and helpless, for news of his father's surgery. He can only watch from afar, and the framing of the background is meant to evoke his car window. He didn't want news of his current situation to cause stress that would worsen his father's heart condition, but his absence is already causing stress enough—yet this was the only course he felt he could take to save his family...
13) "caution": [RS] I love Tang Wude and I love this moment, what can I say? Strolls in looking wack and casual, and then immediately establishes dominance over a crew of criminals. Umbrella users my beloved. This one might be my favorite overall due to all the colors and lighting, and the background was so much fun to draw!
17) "precious": [YB2] Eighth Room is so precious to me. Just look at them! I think this was the one I spent the most time on? This is a redraw of a shot from one of the reality shows the actors filmed together. Spent some time debating what hairstyles to give them; I need to give it some more thought still.
18) "abandon": [TKA] I want to get better at putting together nice sketch pages! Also at hands lol. I was surprised? impressed? that I managed to make Tyranny ZJL look older and more tired compared to HB ZJL—I'm not sure if it was even so distinct in the original.
19) "past": [YB1] I liked the composition of these images, and drawing this moment upon the brushstrokes of the background. I think about this flashback and cri everytime
23) "foreign": [YB2] I wanted to practice side profiles, didn't like how his turned out, but then really DID like the second sketch I did, which was way more fun than I anticipated. He looks cool! Maybe too cool. The extremely intricate outfits are fun to depict in sketch form, and I like his hairstyle here even though everyone was roasting it lol. The lines of the background are just roughly meant to evoke what was actually in the bg of the reference shot, but I quite liked the effect.
25) "freedom": [YB2] I just really like how Chu Niao turned out here, with the details of her costume and her expression. Look at them talking about their future 🥺
26) "peak": [YB2] I think this was the only painterly one I did, but I liked how the vibes turned out—the half-obscured fire, the costume of a god, the crouched figures, the distant mountains and clouds. A unique shot that should be very distinct to those who've watched.
29) "color": [YB2] As you can see I was feeling very emo about YB2 in the latter half of the month haha. This was such an emotionally charged scene and there are 3000 words packed into Wen Wuqi's glance back as Hua Cishu carefully avoids meeting the gaze of someone he's not supposed to know...

omg march 25 was the 15 year anniversary of go for speed
15 years!! it felt like just last year i was thinking of doing something nice for the 10 year anniversary. actually it's pretty cool the fandom is still quite active on lofter

seeing lotsa chatter in the gfs tag on lofter recently and i wanna join! there’s some really interesting thoughts and discussion! but im not even good at meta in english let alone chinese sigh i am just over here rotating afei in my head like a microwave

(this gfs fic from 2020 - which uploaded 5 ch and then went silent - just updated, so it’s gfs feels hours again!!! the fic is taglined something like “making a logical sequel out of illogical source material” so for a show like gfs you know that’s a fun time. it’s just a lot of fun, i’m idly thinking about tl’ing it even though it’s not my usual tl fare.) (also having some lingering hh feels from yday too... you would think that i didn’t have a big bang to do lmao)

i was looking for gfs analysis videos but this kind of top-tier shitposting is really exactly what i needed hahahahahaha
trippy experience trying to watch a french video with (non-matching) chinese subs. feel like i need eng subs for both parts hahaha. still incredibly entertaining.

Heart in her throat, she scanned her surroundings. The call and the text from a number that had been dead for years—she’d barely managed to put on shoes before half-sprinting, half-stumbling outside. Where was he? Was he really back? He—
“The person you’re looking for won’t be coming.”
The voice startled her. Gao Xiaoman spun around to find a car parked along the side of the road, one that hadn’t been there earlier. A young man leaned casually against its hood, watching her.
Their eyes met, and he continued, “I was the one who called you.”
Her blood went cold. “You’re Bat Team’s Racer X,” she said. Her father’s insistence on diligently monitoring their competitors was paying off—though it hardly mattered, not with such disappointment and rage bubbling in her chest now, threatening to swallow her. “Where is A-Fei? How did you use his number? Tell me right now!”
“I don’t know where A-Fei is,” he said, indifferent to her anger. He adjusted his visor, then crossed his arms with a smirk. “What I do know is this: our Bat Team is far stronger than your Shark Team. Of this, your father Dr. Gao Hui should be well aware.”
Xiaoman’s eyes widened, and she instinctively stomped forward, hands balling into fists. “What the fuck do you want?!”
“Join our ranks,” he said. “When it comes to offense development, Shark Team has no hope of besting Bat Team. Think of your little brother, and convince your father to do the right thing.”
“You Bat Team are arrogant beyond saving,” she growled. “Join you? You can fuck right off.” But X’s smile only widened, and that pissed her off even more.

ep 24 is fun! this scene, obviously, but also i think the k vs m match at the beginning is the very first bit of this show i ever saw.

I came across someone’s response to a “use one sentence to prove you’ve watched this show” with the line “you bat team are arrogant beyond saving” and I couldn’t remember who’d said it, was thinking Xiaoman but then was like hm maybe it was actually A-Gang? But no it was indeed Xiaoman during this first meeting with X ahaha

man i did this just to fact check something in my fic but got distracted and all i learned was that i was wrong. it was a phone call and not a text?? x says i was the one who called you but xiaoman didn’t pick up or anything how did she know where to go - i guess she just went outside of shark building. did she just know? maybe i’ll just hc it was both a call and a text?
