Her Partner, Her Partner, Her Partner

It is so clear that Syd will tell anyone who will listen that Carmy is her partner, but this leaves me with more questions than answers.

In Pasta, Syd tells her dad that she has a partner. In Sundae, she tells Nayia that she has a partner. Notice, she doesn’t say ‘business partner’, she just says ‘partner’ so are they partners in business , in love or something else? It is not clear. Nonetheless, Sydney has a title for Carmy; she knows what Carmy is to her to some extent. However, we never hear Carmy say what Syd is to him. Carmy does not call her his ‘best friend’ because that is Fak apparently, he doesn’t call her his ‘Chef De Cuisine’, he doesn’t call her his ‘partner’ so what is Syd to Carmy? I want to know the answer and I believe Sydney desperately wants to know the answer as well.

In Bolognese, Syd asks Carmy to decide what ‘’this person’’ is to him, but the way she asks him is as if she wants him to decide what Syd is to him, not Claire because why say ‘’this person’’ when you know her name, Syd?

Carmy, what is Syd to you? Syd and everyone wants to know.
