I love that with access to the Eluvians your date could take you pretty much anywhere to impress you, and yet every time Emmrich is like, "Time for a trip to the Necropolis Gardens!" And he's right, what can't you do there? It's the perfect spot for:
-a peaceful walk
-teatime
-a fabulous dinner
-showing off your botanical knowledge
-showing off your latent magical abilities
-picking flowers for your significant other

Realising how tragic a Warden Rook romance can be with everyone, but especially Emmrich. His whole life he’s been terrified of death, but he is at least certain Rook will outlive him.
Except one day they aren’t themselves, they can hear the song. And they realise it’s time, it’s their calling come early.
Not only is there nothing Emmrich can do but he’s now too old to follow them into the deeproads, he’s unable to save them and worse still unable to retrieve their body once they’re gone. He has to live his remaining years knowing Rook died down there alone, and he can’t even take comfort in his country’s customs to bury them properly.
