The housing crisis was manufactured by the Liberal party under John Howard. His capital gains tax concessions to property investors wrecked the market and, alongside negative gearing, drives prices up.

The Liberal/National Coalition has been in power for 22 out of the past 28 years in Australia.

The housing crisis is the product of DECADES of Liberal policy. If they get back in they will drive prices up EVEN FURTHER to benefit people like Peter Dutton, whose personal fortune is due to multi-million dollar property investments.

Labor has had limited time in government where they've had to deal with the GFC and now must rebuild after COVID as well as fix up the financial and inflationary mess the Coalition created pre-pandemic.

We CANNOT go back to the Coalition or we're fucked. Is Labor going to fix everything? No - BUT they have invested BILLIONS into housing that the Liberals and Nationals opposed thanks to Greens pressure. They have inquired with the Treasury about the possibility of adjusting the capital gains discount thanks to Greens pressure.

Housing sucks. It is expensive. It will take more than a single term of government to fix. People are rightly upset.

But the solution is clear. Voting in as many Greens as possible to put pressure on and negotiate with a Labor government so that they actually make choices that benefit renters and home owners instead of investor landlords.

Voting for the Coalition will only make things worse. Voting for only Labor without any Greens MPs will only maintain the status quo and things won't improve. Voting in Greens MPs to hold a Labor government account WILL FIX HOUSING.

Tell others. Get involved with the Greens campaign. Make it happen.

I am absolutely taking notes on who’s blaming trans people, and those who attempt to combat misinformation about trans people, for this 1.5-point loss right now btw. The two biggest things idiot voters have mentioned are the economy and immigration. This is not trans people’s fault and I think members of the Democratic Party who were resentful of them already have found a convenient scapegoat.

And since the Venn diagram would be a circle, keep receipts on the Democrats who were out there the day after the election blaming Harris or Biden for what they thought was a landslide loss, especially now that Harris has closed the gap and Trump has dropped to plurality in the popular vote.

Remember how Nancy Pelosi went on television and blamed Biden/Harris. Remember the same people who wanted to throw out the primary votes and hold an open convention in the hopes they could skip over Harris. Remember the ones who are already making up scenarios of a white/white 2028 ticket. Any Democrat who gets on television and blames Biden/Harris cannot be trusted.

Yeah, it looks like this election wound up being 49-48 in terms of the popular vote, with the remaining points going to third parties. The loss is devastating due to the consequences, but it wasn’t a landslide and I’m also really uninterested in anyone blaming Biden-Harris for people staying home out of apathy when the stakes were so high, being misogynistic as hell towards Harris, or straight up not believing reality about the economy. These things weren’t their fault.

I’m not going to predict 2028, but “we need two straight white guys on the ticket” just feels bad. It might turn out that way after the primaries, but meh

We need to throw our support behind Hakeem Jeffries and the Congressional Black Caucus and make it clear that they are the leaders who control the party right now. As one whose loans have been forgiven, I want to frame this more accurately. Biden has taken tremendous heat for forgiving loans that ought to have been paid back and dumping the debt on the taxpayer.

What Biden actually did is what the EXECUTIVE branch of government is meant for: he enforced the law. The contracts for those loans and many more included forgiveness under certain criteria: x years of income-based repayment, 10 years of public service, borrower disability, so on. Borrowers met the criteria and were refused the forgiveness guaranteed in the contracts.

People have gone mad over shaming borrowers for supposedly not fulfilling the terms of their loans, when many exceeded their obligations. Meanwhile few have said a peep against the lenders and servicers that refused to honor the terms they too signed off on. The Biden administration intervened to stop their mass evasion of legal obligations.

This is what happens when we elect a union man and teacher's husband 🥳

Maybe it's my leftover instincts from the "flame wars" phase of ff.net but whenever I see people getting a bit too invested in complaining about fanfics getting their blorbos wrong, like it's some sort of personal insult to them or a systemic injustice, I get worried. It wasn't that long ago that getting someone's favorite character "wrong" was considered a "sin against fandom" and people who ran around bullying new writers into quitting were considered heroes saving people from bad fanfic. There's a reason ao3 doesn't have forums like ff.net did, they were are magnets for targeted harassment, especially for female fanfic writers who wrote characters that were "too perfect".

There was never a perfect era where all fanfic writers lived together in harmony and if we just did x y or z we'd all go back to it. There's always been an element of bullying and judgment in the community and if we aren't careful it'll sneak back.

There were about 75 million people who voted for Kamala Harris. There are 74 million kids under 18 in the United States, and about 11.7 million undocumented immigrants. There are about 12.7 million green card holders in the US (so they’re legal permanent residents, but not citizens).

That’s 173.4 million people who we know for certain could not have possibly voted for Donald Trump. So no, not all Americans voted for or deserve Trump. There were more Harris voters than the total population of some countries!

The case has lots of open space so your big, meaty hands can easily access all of the components, and everything is secured with friction-fit tabs and standard machine screws to minimise the need for specialised tools. A properly laid out tower PC is fully serviceable with a single Phillips-head screwdriver and no greater manual skill than your average Lego playset – heck, for some of the more modern case layouts you don’t even need the screwdriver, unless you’re performing major surgery like a full motherboard replacement.

Like, think about who benefits from convincing you that a fully modular computing device that can be serviced and repaired with your bare hands and minimal technical skill is unfashionable.
