What was Israel trying to achieve, that they could only achieve by killing 14K+ people?
If your stated goal was fighting Hamas, why not do that surgically in a way where the amount of civilian causalities would be in the hundreds if it was abnormally high. If your stated goal really was to end Hamas, you'd gather information and go out and arrest specifically people, and you'd disrupt operations (and you would fix the deplorable conditions that made Hamas feel like that it was doing is necessary.)
Military violence usually has a goal, and doesn't kill more civilians than necessary to achieve it. You want a country to sign a surrender.
But when Palestine has already surrendered to any terms and you keep firing (to achieve nothing), what is that?
Killing 14K+ people was not necessary to bring Hamas into a hostage negotiation. Israel could have already agreed to the SAME trade deal on Oct. 8 as they have now, without firing a shot.
So why did they kill 14K+ people if it wasn't necessary to force a country/state to the negotiating table?
The second justification for their action is bloodthirsty revenge; they've strong armed people into saying, "if you kill 1,000, I will destroy you 1000x more" is a valid military strategy. (Spoiler alert: It's not. It's a move done to ENSURE the continuation of violence).
This isn't even about revenge. Nobody is angry enough to kill 14K+ for 1,000 people. This is about genocide.
They have no interest in ridding the region of Hamas (their actions show that) or achieving any goal except the targeting of civilians. And they won't stop creating and capitalizing on incidences like this until they have enough incidences to permanently displace and cleanse the region of Palestinians.
For somebody who so over-zealously tried to "kill 14K+ in order to get rid of Hamas" they sure are super happy to make deals and continuing to let Hamas operate...
