People gasped. And when the lights came back on I saw grown men dry their tears. People rushed out in silence, there wasn’t a single cheer heard through the entire agonizing 2.5 hours.
But sure, some people will love it. Many will not. Supposedly it got a standing ovation at the LA premiere even though people present described the audience as zombies going through the motions, including people that had worked on the film. Because this was expected of them. And I would imagine the same from press. These aren’t ardent Star Wars fans, but members of press that are there to do their job.
I really can’t agree with your generalization because you may forget that Star Wars has a global audience that doesn’t at all relate to the waspy Christian American experience and system of beliefs which is apparent in this understanding of how redemption works. I can’t at all agree with what you imply is inherent here.
And frankly, you’re just wrong. But if years of explaining how isolating and grooming works and what it was that made both Anakin and Ben fall into the dark side and commit terrible deeds hasn’t worn off on you then I am not going to perform miracles in the span of a single reply.
