I thought we were all overreacting a bit when star wars kept giving Rey the Luke imagery post TROS and kept promoting it. When TROS came out we were all saying Rey was just a vessel for nostalgia and not her own character with desires and motivations.. But you know, JJ constantly lowering the bar and proving us right with his comments. It's just so like dissapointing. How anyone who likes Rey can claim what they did to her in TROS.. It's mainly haters of TLJ and of her being her own person.

Reylos: TROS stripped Rey of agency and turned her into a symbol of cheap nostalgia

Men™️: you’re just projecting your womanly bias!!! get the gone with your terrible feminine opinions!!!

JJ:…no that’s exactly what happened, actually

I wish Rey had remained her own character...

JJ is always looking for recipes, formulas to replicate, flares to blind you with ... he has no real depth...

I’m scared to ask, but what idiocies came out of JJ’s mouth now??

He took part in a screenwriting workshop and called Rey a “conduit” between Luke and Leia

Also this, which is hilarious:

Reading stuff like that is just upsetting, as a fan, again, you feel like the characters, you’ve loved for so many years, have been turned into soulless cardboard figures... never mind the “fake” depth, explained in interviews,  making Rey’s path a way to bash into our heads the “pure” name Skywalker, rather then telling the new (only the last 4 years !!)  heroine’s story and her soulmate.

All 3 characters, Luke, Leia and Rey, have lost their aura, and much personality,  in that movie ending  and  the only way to fix this in my head is to erase as much as possible of the plot which is in  direct contradiction with my love for Ben Solo, his redemption and Reylo love.

This movie will forever be  painful.

You and me...were in this together now.

God though those neck muscles. Holy fuck.

But also the way they move absolutely together. I feel like here’s where it all went topsy turvy. Palpatine just drains their force and tosses him over a cliff? Just like that? All this amazing build up and…….nothing? WHY?

JJ just thinks in terms of trailers and ad spots. He likes short clips of awesomeness rather than overall development and flow

it’s just us now

Yeah, this was SO amazing, and then what comes next in disappointing, they’re still not strong enough, as a dyad.

What a massive disappointment about FinnRose. One can only hope it's a "there's too much to deal with it right now and we can't be together" early phase that it will be tackled by the movie, otherwise, what was even the point of the KISS in TLJ? What do you think? Iss JJ to be trusted?

Thinking on it again after a day’s work,  I’m inclined to temper my first gut reaction…. about whether FinnRose will happen or not. The extract we read from had Finn telling Poe about a conversation he had with Rose, now I do not know if that conversation is in the book. If this conversation was in the book we could make a better judgement call on the characters feelings. The scene with Poe might not be entirely reliable.

It seems to me that Finn could be dismissing the relationship, and that Rose would have made it appeared it was OK to “just be friends”…. in other words the relation needs more events within the TROS storyline to grow and develop.  It’s not a done deal, which is creating conflict and is a common ingredient in storytelling.

I don’t think JJ would be so callous as to eradicate Rose from his plot, or completely backtrack on the Finn/Rose dynamic. Having said that the friendship zoning remains possible.

I think we can trust JJ. He started the tale and I feel he will finish it appropriately. He has made errors in the past, but that’s only natural. His main issue, I find, is the way he handles the promotion of his movies, it’s just grating, too often.

"Star Wars is an optimistic, spiritual world, and more like a fairytale [...] Ever since I was a kid, all that matters to me is the love story [...] It’s the thing I had to find first. Sometimes, [the love story] is obvious, sometimes a bit more complicated."

"Without a doubt [there will be a love story], but I already know I want to approach this project in a different way because Star Wars, it’s a special world."

"What makes this story have a beating heart? We simply approached this narrative from the point of view that this is a story about a young man and a young woman, not with the idea that we can do anything we want."

In wake of JediPaxis /Reddit less credible, more FanBros catered, very changable leaks, that total disregard Kylo or Rose arc, heavily pro OT legends-heavy plot..

Lets revisit JJ mentioned of the finale scene, Answering to MTV News.

Q: the Last Shot of this film, when did you decide on it, have you decided on it, did that come early in the process?

JJ: If I had not decided on that, I'd be in real trouble. But, it was a very early on thing, and it's less the last shot of the movie, than the last sequence, but it's something that, I hope you like."

So, don't let anyone led you to think Lucasfilm will just keep changing last sequence or last shot to please fans or shippers. They will be unwavering in their route.

The crew’s return is emblematic of Abrams’ approach to the final instalment of the Skywalker Saga, picking up the baton from Johnson’s middle film, nurturing seeds he first planted in The Force Awakens, and bringing the whole thing home. And while Johnson took several plot threads – Rey’s parentage, Snoke’s fate – in surprising directions that some fans are still unhappy with, Abrams had no qualms with incorporating Johnson’s choices.

“I never found myself trying to repair anything,” he tells Empire. “If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people. If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”

There were a whole lot of questions following the title’s reveal. Did The Rise of Skywalker mean a redemption arc for Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)? Did it mean that J.J. Abrams would retcon Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) origin in his upcoming film? Did it mean a new name for the Jedi?
According to Abrams, the title actually wasn’t meant to be all that misleading.
Speaking in an interview with Empire (via Express), The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams addresses his controversial title for Episode IX, talking about how he came up with the name for the third and final film in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars sequel trilogy.
“In coming up with the title we just looked at the film and asked ourselves, ‘What are we saying?’ It feels very much like the title of this film.”
Abrams doesn’t necessarily give the answer that we expect, though we’re hoping to learn more as The Rise of Skywalker approaches its release. Right now we’re waiting for the first full trailer for Episode IX, and while most are expecting the video to drop during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, there are those betting on the Disney exhibition, D23.

it’s super clear to me :)

Can you guys just imagine the amount of adrenaline that must have been coursing through Rey and Kylo after they defeated the Praetorian Guards? I mean, before everything goes to hell, the way they’re looking at each other in wonderment and disbelief…what an unbelievable amount of tension. That’s the kind of tension that makes you crash into each other.

Realizing that you’re both safe, that you helped save each other and accomplished so much on a whim driven purely by passion and faith in the other person…I can’t imagine what it was like to intuitively grasp that euphoria, then completely have the world pulled out from under you when you realize things aren’t going to work out the way you hoped for. No wonder their conversation afterwards was pure angst and desperation (see: avoiding the implications of your intimacy altogether or using insults to try and make your plea more appealing).

It’s so tragic but one thing’s for certain: neither of them are going to be able to get that moment (that sense of perfect symmetry and fulfillment) out of their heads.

Rule the galaxy… create a new order ….. save the resistance… who’s your parents…? They talked about politics and the in-laws….. it could not end well…

they avoided intimacy all right.

“the in-laws” 🤣

True though. They both, and Rey especially, didn’t know how to deal with that new-found liberty where they could be so ‘nakedly’ open with each other. Their chemistry is electrifying. I mean, there were literal sparks flying around them!

Part of their journey in IX, whatever JJ will choose to do, will be about resolving that tension even further. And yeah, they should just kiss already.

Ben : your parents suck... but not you 😜

Resolution at the hands of JJ will be pure bliss 🤗 and sealed with a kiss, I agree!

As he prepares to reenter the “Star Wars” universe with his upcoming (and still-untitled) Episode IX, “Force Awakens” filmmaker J.J. Abrams is unbothered by the recent backlash to the diversity of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Asked by IndieWire about pushback from “Star Wars” fans who decried Rian Johnson’s film for its focus on more female-centric stories (bolstered by the edition of franchise newbies like Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran), Abrams was clear: “Their problem isn’t ‘Star Wars,’ their problem is being threatened.”
Abrams was unfazed. “‘Star Wars’ is a big galaxy, and you can sort of find almost anything you want to in ‘Star Wars,‘” he said. “If you are someone who feels threatened by women and needs to lash out against them, you can probably find an enemy in ‘Star Wars.’ You can probably look at the first movie that George [Lucas] did [‘Star Wars: A New Hope’] and say that Leia was too outspoken, or she was too tough. Anyone who wants to find a problem with anything can find the problem. The internet seems to be made for that.”
Asked if fan outcry would at all impact his vision for the upcoming film, Abrams was clear. “Not in the least,” he said, adding, “There’s a lot that I would like to say about it, but I feel like it’s a little early to be having the ‘Episode IX’ conversation … I will say that the story of Rey and Poe and Finn and Kylo Ren — and if you look, there are three men and one women, to those that are complaining that there are too many women in ‘Star Wars’ — their story continues in a way that I couldn’t be more excited about and cannot wait for people to see.”
Equality in the industry is currently top of mind for the filmmaker, as Abrams is being honored later this month with the Athena Film Festival’s Leading Man Award, given to “men in Hollywood who have a strong track record of serving as vocal allies of and effective advocates for women in entertainment.” Previous honorees include Paul Feig and David Oyelowo.
“I wish it weren’t something that there was a need to do,” he said when asked about the honor. “It’s a bit like Black History Month, like why should it just be a month? Why can’t it just be part of history? Why does there have to be a special award for someone who is working to be as collaborative with as many women as possible? That’s simply good business … We will keep making mistakes and trying to do better, but the end game is equality.”

threatened by women, haha, he is pretty forward!, you know he’ll just do his story and won’t let himself intimidated.
