The IDF is withdrawing its reserve forces because it can't defeat the Palestinian resistance just like everybody predicted before the ground invasion.

1: people did in fact care a lot and the firebombing of Dresden was and remains a pretty big deal

2: don't fucking kill people in order to accomplish nothing. if hamas were hiding actual goals behind civilians, it would be proper to say "we have to do this to defend ourselves against hamas in the future and it's their fault they put civilians in the way" but when your military operations accomplish nothing other than killing civilians, then you should stop doing them, even if you have a legal reason you are allowed to.

3: don't do things that are bad ideas. since this war is accomplishing nothing, there is no productive outcome for Israel whatsoever and the only possible result is killing civilians and increasing antagonism against them, prosecuting this war is a bad idea. "I'm allowed to do this" is not an adequate response to "why do you think it's a good idea to do this."

Well then it’s a good thing (for this particular purpose) that Hamas does in fact hide behind civilians, as evidenced by angry tweets by Gazans themselves, secondary explosions from weapons stockpiles visible at attack locations, and also confirmed names of Hamas members being killed.

I would also like to note that at this point, it's hardly surprising that there would be Gazans who are angry at Hamas. If you've spent months as a refugee in an active warzone, of course you might start blaming the supposed reason, especially publicly. Once the IDF has wasted enough money and spilled enough blood to decide it did its job, then we can start talking about how many of them are anti-Hamas (or whatever new potentially violent organization emerges from this) to the point of blaming them for their suffering over Israel.

And again, as BA implied, the IDF is creating more terrorists, the children of the families it is actively tearing apart will not forget who did this to them. All they need to inevitably pose a threat to Israel is anyone from any country that dislikes Israel enough to give them a weapon.

So it literally does not matter if one out of ten missiles actually hits someone who might have at some point maybe harmed an Israeli civilian. You're kicking the ball down the road at best.
