TW: Implied Past Torture, Oblivious Sadistic Whumper
Caretaker took a sip from her cup as she walked over to the table. She placed the cup down and seated herself across from Whumper.
“Are you completely certain?” He repeated for what felt like the thousandth time since he walked in.
“Absolutely positive.” She nodded with a warm smile.
Whumper hummed and took a sip of the tea she’d poured for him. “It’s just that I’ve been hearing a lot about so-called…fairy sightings.” He rolled his eyes as if the subject disgusted him. She knew it was the complete opposite. “I-I was asking you because I know you like…such things. You still do, right?”
She giggled. “Yes, I still do love fairies. But I know they aren’t real now that I’m older. But it’s nice to believe sometimes, you know?”
“Right, right.” He nodded as if he was convincing himself.
“How about this? You look into it some more this evening then come back tomorrow and I’ll show you my fairy garden.”
His brows raised in surprise. “You still have it?”
Caretaker nodded. “Yep.”
“After all these years? You’re actually gonna let me see it?”
“Yep. Kind of hard to let go of the things you love.” She shrugged. She stood from her seat, Whumper following suit. “You just do what I said alright? Then tomorrow, we can look over it together. Okay?”
“Yeah–yes. Right.” Whumper nodded rapidly. Caretaker could only smile as she walked him to the door.
“I’ll see you tomorrow!” She waved as he walked out the door. Once he was far enough away, she sighed and slammed her front door. Briefly sinking against the door and shaking her head, she bolted upstairs to her room. She sighed a second time, this time of relief when she found three little fairies perched at her window.
She smiled. “Don’t worry, you’re still safe. I’m throwing him off the trail a little more.” She walked over to view the scenery that they were viewing. They all watched as Whumper got further and further away.
“Normally, he would be the first person I’d tell about something like this.” The fairies all looked up at Caretaker, noting her sudden sadness. She frowned slightly. “But I know how he is. He forgets his own strength sometimes…”
