Whumpuary Day 10: Kidnapped
Whumpee shivered and opened his eyes. He gasped and looked around when he realized he was in an unfamiliar place. He was on a bed with a blanket draped over him. He panicked when he felt a chain around his ankle and attempted to free himself.
“It’s alright.” A voice spoke, making him jump. He looked around before his eyes landed on a figure leaning against the doorway. “Don’t be scared.”
“My friend?” Whumpee squinted. “I’m sorry but I don’t think I know you.”
“Well I think I should be allowed the honor of being called your friend.” He could see pearly whites thanks to the small lamp next to him. It reminded him of the Cheshire Cat. The thought made him grimace.
“Because I helped you. And that’s what friends do, right?”
“Yeah, that’s what friends do… How did you help me?”
“Your team left you behind. You were passed out, helpless, alone. I saved you.”
Whumpee frowned slightly. “No they didn’t. They would never leave me.”
“Well they did. They left you all alone. Said forget you and kept going. They didn’t look back either. But I saw you. And I saw what they did to you. So I took you in. Patched you up.” He noticed a hand motion forward towards his leg. Whumpee pulled the blanket off his legs and saw the gauze over his skin. “That’s what friends do for each other right?”
“Um. Yeah. Thank you. But um, can I ask, why exactly am I chained? And can I see you? If we’re gonna be friends I would at least like to see you.”
The figure stepped forward. A small smile on his lips, his hands were tucked in his pockets. He was wearing all black, a jacket clinging to his frame. Fear flashed across Whumpee’s gaze. This was the man they were fighting against. This was the man who committed the worst crimes imaginable. Now Whumpee was stuck in his territory.
“I’m Whumper. I’m sure you’ve heard about me a couple times.”
“Yeah… I heard about you.”
“You’re welcome.” He smiled.
“No, no, no. Of course not.” He shook his head. “I would never hurt you. Or even abandon you for that matter. Not like your team did.”
“They didn’t abandon me. You kidnapped me!”
“I would never.” He gasped, offended with his hand over his chest. “That’s a low even I wouldn’t stoop to.”
Whumpee frowned. “I don’t believe you. They would never leave me behind.”
The frown was almost instantly returned. “If thats the case, explain to me why they let me take you in? Explain to me why you’re here and not at your headquarters where your medic can patch you up? Explain to me why I had to patch you up?”
He thought for a moment. In a way, Whumper was right. Why wasn’t he being rescued by the team? Why wasn’t he back at their base? Why wasn’t he patched up by their medic? But what if the team was looking for him now? He shook his head. “No! They’re looking for me right now, I know they are! They wouldn’t leave me behind like that! You kidnapped me!”
“If that’s what you think.” Whumper held his hands up, his frown dropping. “You know how long you’ve been here Whumpee?”
“Forty-eight hours. Almost seventy-two. You’re telling me that your team wouldn’t abandon you and you’ve been here almost three days and they still haven’t come to save you? I mean, surely, they know you’re not with them. You’re quite hard not to notice Whumpee.” He smiled.
The team actually abandoned him? They left him to…die? They haven’t come back to save him yet? Weren’t they worried about him? Didn’t they want to know he was okay?
Tears began to fill Whumpee’s eyes. Whumper made a somber expression. “Aw, don’t cry Whumpee. You’re not completely alone. You still have me.”
He blinked away his tears. “No I don’t. How do I know you won’t hurt me?”
“Oh, Darling, I would never hurt you.” Whumper shook his head and stepped closer. Whumpee scooted backwards as if he could get away. He found himself unable to move when the chain wouldn’t allow him to go any further. “I’ll stay nothing but loyal to you Whumpee. I don’t believe in a friendship without loyalty. I say you stay here with me. I won’t abandon you like they did. I won’t hurt you like they did. I’ll be there through it all.”
Whumpee tightly hugged himself as his tears began flowing. Whumper wrapped his arms around him, rubbing Whumpee’s arm as he sobbed. “It’s okay, Love. You’ll always have me. I won’t ever leave you behind.”
