As minor of a role Sky Young had in Arcane, I can't help but think about her and how as good as Arcane is, it dealt her a really bad hand and fridged her for no reason. She was smart and brilliant and her journal probably holds the answer to Viktor stabilizing the Hexcore if only he or Jayce ever entertained her ideas and if only she got the courage to bring them up sooner.

Also she did genuinely care for Viktor and she had a unrequited(?) crush on him in this really innocent way, so much so when he dismisses her she get's all teary eyed and leaves. This wasn't explored enough, but I feel that everyone ignores it. That scene of hers was also put back to back with Mel and Jayce's first kiss, to parallel the way Viktor rejected Sky (cause he was dying!) and Jayce embraced Mel's advances. And Viktor and Sky knew each other when they were kids, he obviously invites her to play with him and the little boat he made, but she get's called elsewhere by her friends and he is left alone.

It's not until that she dies, that Viktor in any way realizes she's been here all along, a Zaunite like him, coming from the undercity and making it in Piltover. And in that scene following her death, we both see how Viktor values life so much, something we already saw in his arc, because he shows such viceral distress at having killed her, but also she was someone he knew and he knew on some level that she cared for him. Reading her journal and her saying how her ideas will probably never see the light of day has him bent on the floor, crying over the pages like I never expected to see this character do. Not to mention how in their previous encounter, she tells him there's always tomorrow and we know there might not be a tomorrow for him, but in the end there is no tomorrow for her.

In the end he took her ashes to the one place where they used to play as kids, and to the place that meant a lot to him as shown in the conversation with Heimer he has before, he kept her journal and glasses and despite fighting for his life the whole season, he contemplate suicide over what he had done.

I think we can all both acknowledge that one of Arcane's weaker moments was fridging Sky, a woman of color who loved Viktor, for some kind of Man Pain and giving him "gray morality", while also ackowledge that she was still important to him in some way and that her death impacted him greatly.

love viktor arcane because like. he's clearly inspired by viktor frankestein. but he's like, a viktor frankestein that instead of creating a separate creature, becomes the creature itself. he's frankestein AND frankestein's monster. creator and creation at the same time. peak character

skye potentially being the inspiration rune is such a sick theory because she was in fact the only scientist in that lab who was willing to actually sacrifice her life's work to save others.. her nervous excitement while she's about to share months of studies with her mentor who btw "inspires everything she does" (like hmmm okay), her notebook (coincidentally blue & gold) held close to her heart as she practices what to say ..but then she walks on viktor getting swallowed by the hexcore and doesn't think twice before jumping to his rescue.

and maybe the hexcore felt that. saw her sacrifice. the no hesitation. the purity of her heart. saw the countless hours she spent researching a way to bring to life the original dream both jayce and viktor failed to deliver. and captured her soul for the greater scheme. she was the missing piece, the footprint needed to guide viktor and help him wake up the arcane.

I cry

The Hexcore is like a pet. Like Viktor said, it learns. It is not inherently evil. Feed it shimmer and blood and you will get a beast. Feed it, idk, poro snacks and good vibes or something and you will get a cute örb.
