Nicholas Chavez Reportedly Not Returning to General Hospital
** I know I've been gone for a while, and boy a lot has happened. Let's start with one of the most disappointing pieces of news.
When Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer, General Hospital) landed the role of Lyle Menedez in the second season of the Ryan Murphy Netflix anthology series Monster back in June 2023, fans wondered how it would impact his role on the soap. In January 2024, it became clear that he would be taking a leave of absence from GH in order to shoot the high-profile new role, but was expected to return once it was finished.
However now, TV Line is reporting that multiple sources are confirming to them that Chavez will not be returning to GH as previously expected. A spokesperson from the soap declined to comment on their story, but fans suspected Chavez’s absence could be permanent when the actor’s name was no longer seen in the show’s credits.
Chavez took over the role of Spencer Cassadine on GH back in July 2021 and earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations, taking home the trophy for Younger Actor in 2022. He began shooting Monster late last year and Spencer was written off the soap in January 2024 when the character was presumed dead after a tragic accident in France.
At this time, GH has not officially confirmed that Chavez will no longer be returning to play Spencer, or if there are any plans to recast the role or simply leave him dead for a while.
