Brilliant parody Twitter account/depressing vision of our global future President Supervillain — created by D.M. Higgins, creator of the excellent Jill Trent, Science Sleuth — takes classic Silver Age panels from Marvel comics featuring the Red Skull, erases the text, and then puts in honest-to-god quotes from Trump.
Was Jill Trent, Science Sleuth “the most radical comics hero of the 1940s” and how did we update her for the modern day? Editor D.M. Higgins discusses it at Bleeding Cool.
Cecilia Payne (1900-1979) is a real-life astronomer who discovered the chemical composition of the stars (and the fact that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe).
Because her findings were so revolutionary, Prof. Henry Norris Russell scoffed and called the result “clearly impossible.” He persuaded her to add a sentence to her thesis stating that her findings were “almost certainly not real.”
But her findings were real, and she was right. Four years later, Russell published a book that reached the same conclusions as Payne.
Hence Cecilia Payne’s warning to young scientists:
“If you are sure of your facts, you should defend your position.”

Geekadelphia did a nice article about our JILL TRENT, SCIENCE SLEUTH series. It includes interviews with editor D.M. Higgins and contributor Kelly Phillips, who just won the Philly Geek Award for Comics Creator of the Year!
Jill Trent: her science is SO good... HOW GOOD IS IT??
Hey check it out, this is hydrogen’s cameo in the pages in JILL TRENT, SCIENCE SLEUTH #2.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe — I learned that from “SCIENCE SLEUTHS OF HISTORY” written by D.M. Higgins & Charley Macorn with art by Kelly Phillips & Andrea Scott!
Give it up for hydrogen you guys.

I’d like to introduce… Josephine the Moose-Rider! One of the 17 short stories in Epic Canadiana Volume 2, which recently launched on Kickstarter. Josephine’s story was written by D.M. Higgins ( superdames ), drawn by kyle-m-roberts, and I handled the tones.
“This book is the second in a series of graphic novel anthologies dedicated to exploring numerous flavours of superheroism within Canada. EPIC CANADIANA #2 is a black & white anthology featuring awesome comics written and drawn by creators from all over Canada, with 17 stories (over 200 pages!). It features a truly diverse collection of heroes – some of them pastiches of classic 40s characters and others totally new. There are arctic demigods and social activists, restless spirits and bison-riding vigilantes. Canada is a tapestry of great diversity, and we have striven to represent them in our anthology with heroes of various genders, ethnicities, and perspectives, including aboriginal and immigrant champions, a character coping with autism, a gay rights activist, a conflicted colonial soldier, and many more. And carefully studying all of them is Department None, a hidden branch of the Canadian government dedicated to keeping track of all superhumans… and dealing with them if necessary.“

“Science Sleuths of History” is a new feature in JILL TRENT, SCIENCE SLEUTH #2 that pays homage to the “Wonder Women of History” feature in Wonder Woman comics of the 1940s.
Fun fact: Annie Jump Cannon was one of Cecilia Payne’s mentors at Harvard, and Payne’s groundbreaking work directly built upon Cannon’s work!
