i loveeeeeee nonlinear storytelling. show me where we are. now show me how we got here. the end before the beginning. show me how it was inevitable or how many chances we had to change things(nothing was ever going to change). let's meet in the middle as all the puzzle pieces slide into place hell yeah that's the good shit.
book from the sky (tianshu) xu bing, 1989-91
I was so excited to see a copy of this in real life bc it's something I studied in art history. this is a book that was typeset and printed by hand using wooden blocks but every one of the characters was invented for the sake of the piece and does not correspond to any word in the Chinese language
yes. he invented and hand carved 4000 characters. it is a CRAZY project that resulted in an intentionally unreadable book. I love it
Xu Bing you're legendary to me !!!!
hey boy you look so good in makeup. now cry

you might be awkward but I can be awkward in a far deeper and more humiliating way than you ever will
And in the darkness, bind them.

i need everyone to know that community is what will save us all in every single way imaginable. you forming a bond with your neighbour or coworker might help them move house or feel less alone or have the courage to leave an unhealthy living environment. you helping a stranger might provide them with hope. in turn, being able to lean on your community in times of need will save you. your broader bonds with your community are the revolution we need. our society seeks to divide and separate us in so many ways but we are all so much more united in our struggles and joys than you are made to believe. we need to hold onto each other very tightly.
its almost as if trumps loss in 2020 was in-fact a bellwether for the continued rise of neo-fascism... its almost like, just maybe, when a liberal party responds to reactionary ideologies with centrism and militant nationalism it doesn't exactly offer a counter to fascism but instead offers nutritive soil for its roots to grow... you could almost argue that a state that extracts its power from violent exploitation will inevitably fall to fascism... perhaps, just maybe, this is the inherent trajectory of a nation built on genocide... weird...
if you're waking up like me thinking "where do we even go from here?"
you:
- build community & involve yourself locally
- learn self sustainability skills
- choose kindness
- protect others & yourself
- join or build a mutual aid group and/or network
- find time for small joys (the arts, cooking a meal you love, spending time with loved ones, etc.)
you get to feel all the despair you want in this moment. but tomorrow morning you have to get up and resume the work. pick any of the above options. come up with your own meaningful ways to connect with the people around you so you all have support, no matter what happens in the future. give yourself something good to work towards.
God I wish elections in the fucking US wouldn’t affect literally every other country in the world
you stick your fingers in my cage... my pitch black cage. you feel something cold and wet...you retract your fingers and to your horror you realize i painted your nails! :) i hope you like them
using the bus tracker app is like. oh it's going to be here in three minutes. now it's five minutes. oh the bus has killed itself
Don’t cry. This isn’t real. IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE 花樣年華 (2000) dir. Wong Kar Wai
I mean surely we all grew up feeling like there was a wrongness inherently deep inside us that will endure for the rest of our lives
