Hi everyone.
My brother lives in Altadena, California (off of woodbury and lincoln, if we want to be specific) and a couple nights ago he and his family (wife, 3 sons, and their dog) they were evacuated at 4 AM. They weren't able to grab many belongnings outside of important documents and didn't bring any clothes with them when they came to stay with me and our mother.
My apartment is rather small and as of tonight they're currently at an airbnb so as to have access to more than my twin size bed and a shower that doesn't run out of hot water every 15 minutes.
They're taking trips to Altadena every day to check up on their house and try and see if it's been spared the flames but the asshole national guard wont give them any answers as their street is blocked off since they were evacuated. See below:
My nephew opened up a gofund me for their family given they work from home and have been majorly affected in their ability to keep up with their business and pay their bills, so if you could help us out by sharing or donating whatever you can, we'd appreciate it immensely.
Here are some photos of what the Eaton fire looked like the night they were evacuated (taken with my brothers phone as they were on their way out)
and here is a photo of the beautiful little boy you'd be helping keep kibble in his bowl. his name is Rocco.
Thank you,
jay f. (tumble user coureirsix)

guys everything is on fire did i miss new destiel dropped
Southern California is on fire
In 2024, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass defunded the LA Fire Department by $17.3 million.
The LA Police Department, however, got a $138 million budget increase.
Among the firefighters, 30% of them are inmate firefighters who are risking their lives for $2 an hour. Only for them to not be able to get a job as a firefighter once they're released.
There are now 4 fires burning across Socal. The one getting the most attention is the Palisades fire which has grown to over 11,000 acres. Alongside it is the Altadena fire (over 10,000 acres), Hurst fire (700 acres), and Lidia fire (50 acres).
Due to the unprecedented Santa Ana winds, which have blown to over 100 mph, firefighters have not been able to make a dent on these fires.
A thousand homes have been destroyed. Two people lost their lives from the Altadena fires.
Instead of showing sympathy for the thousands of victims, right wing conspiracy theorists on twitter are blaming the fires on the LA Fire Chief, who is a lesbian, while Trump is blaming CA Governor Gavin Newsom for not removing water from a delta that would have endangered a native species.
Not climate change. Not the Resnicks, a billionaire couple who took control of California's water supply and now use over 150 billion gallons every year for their companies.
If you're in Southern California, please download the Watch Duty app. It brings up to date information on the fires along with evacuation zones. If officials tell you to evacuate, you do it. Make sure you look up shelters and mutual aid organizations in the area where you'll evacuate to. If you have to abandon your car, please move it to the side or leave your keys in the car so firefighters can move it out of the way.
The consequences of this disaster will be catastrophic. It has become increasingly clear that our government officials will not protect us as they would rather fill their own pockets. Stick together. Protect your community as best as you can.
Please keep Southern California in your thoughts. We're going to need them.
in los angeles, the historically Black community of altadena has been decimated by the ongoing eaton fire.
afropunk has created a spreadsheet of gofundmes of displaced Black individuals and families affected by the current los angeles fires. the list is constantly being updated.

Please, I don’t think I have a lot of people on here, but my aunt recently lost her home in the Eaton Fire in SoCal. I go outside, and there’s ashes in the air and I know it’s all parts of the neighborhood I used to walk around in. I would go from friend’s house to friend’s house and I can’t stop thinking about how their parents used to feed me and take care of me just because Altadena has that small town feel.
Please if you have anything, consider donating. We’re working on getting her set up temporarily at my grandparent’s and this would help tremendously. Thank you. Please share!!

I live in LA and I'm really angry and heartbroken for my city and community. Thankfully, I'm in a safe area, but many of my friends and neighbors are at a much greater risk.
For anyone living in LA right now who needs resources, heres a spreadsheet you can access for specific needs. Check in on friends and family. Stay safe and take care of your community. ❤️

Southern California Fires Masterpost
please be safe guys!! if you can:
- Stay off the roads. People need to evacuate, and traffic jams are dangerous!! If we block the roads, we block people from getting to safety.
- Wear a mask, use air purifiers, and keep those who have respiratory issues indoors! Air quality is sucky right now, so be careful.
- IF YOU ARE IN AN EVACUATION WARNING ZONE, PREPARE TO EVACUATE. Pack a go bag, run through an emergency plan with your family and friends, and make plans in case you have to get out quickly.
- Stay calm, and if you are able bodied in an evacuation zone, try to help neighbors and friends escape. Either leave your keys in your car or take it with you - cars blocking roads cause problems for evacuees and firefighters.
- If you suspect you might be mandated to evacuate soon, GO NOW! Don’t wait - it’s better to be safe than scrambling at the last second, or worse, on fire.
- My post on what to do if you need to evacuate
- How to pack a go-bag
- Offer support to those who need it. If you have any friends or family in evacuation zones or warning areas, contact them and ensure they’re safe. Take in families or extend help if they need it.
- I’m not sure if anyone can just walk up and volunteer at evacuation centers, but if you can, try and make it easier on those whose lives have just been completely uprooted.
- WAYS TO HELP, MORE WAYS TO HELP
- HELPING VICTIMS, MORE WAYS
- CALIFORNIA FIRE FOUNDATION
- VOLUNTEERING
- RESOURCES & LOCATION
- Try and conserve water! Firefighters are running out of water to fight the fires…their resources are already strained, so anything we can do to help is great.
- Respect those on the front lines! They’re doing so much to keep us safe and lots of people owe their lives to them.
- Make sure your pets are safe! In areas closer to the fires, wildlife is displaced, and they could end up attacking small pets. Doubtful that they’d attack humans, but be careful nonetheless! A lot of the fires are destroying the mountains where coyotes and other predators live, so be aware of any animals in your neighborhood.
INFORMATION ON THE FIRES
As of now, 20:07 01/09/25, the palisades fire has burned over 19,900 acres but is listed as 6% containment; the eaton fire is over 13,600 and still at 0%.
The kenneth fire is 960 acres and 0% contained. (fun fact, the evacuation warning for this fire was the one that was accidentally sent county-wide) - this fire is suspected to be arson.
The hurst fire is 10% contained and has shrunk to 671 acres; the lidia fire is at 348 and 60%.
The woodley fire (30 acres) is now 100% contained, as is the olivias fire (11 acres) and the sunset fire (43 acres).
All LA Unified schools and offices are closed today, January 9, and tomorrow, Friday, January 10. Most if not all private schools, Culver City Unified schools, and schools in the Santa Monica/Malibu school district are also closed.
At least 6 people are dead, over 10,000 structures (including homes) are destroyed. Over 45 square miles total (29,000 acres) have been or are being burned.
Red flag weather alerts will continue through today and tomorrow - winds died down last night but are expected to resume tonight!
Stay safe!!!
the mutual aid los angeles network (malan) has put together a spreadsheet with valuable resources for people affected by the ongoing los angeles wildfires and wind storm. the sheet is constantly being updated with resources such as shelter info, animal boarding info, addresses for distribution centers, volunteer opportunities and so much more.
if you are in or around los angeles and the fires and evacuation alerts have not yet reached you, take pictures of where you live. as many as you can. inside and outside if possible. try to take CLEAR pictures of serial numbers, product names, appliances, expensive stuff especially. these pictures will help you get major things replaced exactly instead of just "a TV".
stay safe. remember to bring critical paperwork when evacuating.
