Here’s the thing about Destiel, I ship it like a lot of others in the fandom. And I understand that not a lot of people look at Dean and Cas and see a romantic relationship. I didn’t see it for a long time either. I maintained that they were just friends till season 12. But then suddenly I found out that Dean gave Cas a fucking mix-tape and I had to reevaluate my whole fucking life.

I understand that maybe it makes Jensen uncomfortable and maybe yes, Dean is not bisexual or gay but my god. Then they should stop bating us with it. I don’t blame the actors, they are following a script and are allowed to hold whatever opinion they want. Moreover I think it’s not fair for fans to ask Jensen about it if it makes him uncomfortable. But the show runners and producers are not naive little kids, with no knowledge of what the fuck is going on.

They are not only obviously aware that we ship them but more so than that, they are taking advantage of it. DESTIEL WON A TEEN CHOICE AWARD FOR THEIR “CHEMISTRY” WTF? So at this point, it’s just shameless queer-bating. Clearly the writers know what they are doing. Misha has been vocal about his support for it as well (when allowed). He got reprimanded for it so he stopped promoting it, but then eventually he spoke out in favor of it again. It’s pretty clear the aim of the show is to now maintain this fine line where they keep baiting the fans with the possibility of Destiel but never actually deliver on it. 

I know not everyone likes the idea of them being more than friends but I think it would be quite cruel to write blatantly queer coded characters  only to make it marketable for a certain part of the audience. The show is on CW, which is a network that also has LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, which is one of the most diverse shows out there. THEY MADE CONSTANTINE and SARAH LANCE BISEXUAL ICONS FOR FUCK’S SAKE. 

This is the last season, I know we will never get canon Destiel, I am just saying it is a fucking shame. It would’ve been a good story. It would have been meaningful and worthy. It would have been an amazing character arc, of acceptance, friendship, love and trust but obviously, it won’t be. It’s super okay for boys to love boys even if one of the boys is an angel who technically has no gender.

It’s a shame really, this season has been a lot more queer coded than before. I wish they had the guts to just make these grown men  just hold hands.

One small step for Destiel, one giant leap for representation of LGBTQ+ community.
