So your boss is having a meltdown and taking out their emotions on you and your co-workers because Ontario finally raised the minimum wage.
What do you do?
That’s a very real question for Ontario’s most vulnerable workers. Even though many businesses are managing to adapt and remain profitable, some bosses are punishing workers – in some cases, potentially illegally too.
Despite a wealth of economic data showing a minimum wage raise is good for workers and good for businesses, workers report some business owners have clawed back benefits, cancelled paid breaks and even poached tips from their workers.

Le Monocle Club was a lesbian club in Montmartre in Paris, which was a successful bar in the 1920’s and 1930’s. This painting is inspired by Le Monocle Club, and the photos were taken there, several by the great photographer Brassaï. The club owner, who is the only one who appears by themself (in the fourth photo), also appears as a bartender in some of the subsequent photos. The club was ultimately shut down by the Nazis during the German occupation of Paris, as a reprisal against queer lifestyles. The club was named after the early 20th century lesbian fashion for wearing monnocles, which acted as an advertisement of one’s queer sexuality. You can find this painting as a print in my etsy shop. Femmes, esp those who are fat, Black and brown, disabled, trans, etc., should not have to be guilt-ridden because they may or may not be able to meet vapid expectations placed onto them

Yes, our aesthetic choices can be a way of flagging but they’re not the end-all, be-all for our identity. There’s more to us than how we look.

We deserve UNCONDITIONAL respect PERIOD.
