I think the concept can be something like that. Like most of them chose to ignore and leave behind parts of them or memories from their past in order for them to move forward. But I don’t think it is an alternate reality… I think it may be a continuing timeline.
When people bring up alternate realities… I keep remembering this scene…
Tae remembered this happening. He closed his eyes and remembered Namjoon being there. It was a memory.
I think the concept of Fake Love is not being able to Love Yourself fully and opting to neglect parts of you or your life that you would rather forget. But one way or another… like in the Highlight Reels… your past will catch up to you.
The insecurities you refuse to face (Jimin), the fears of abandonment you preferred to ignore (JHope), dark pasts you run away from (Taehyung), guilt you try to bury (Namjoon), vices and weaknesses you lie to yourself about (Suga), people you let go who you still believe you shouldn’t have (Jin)…
If we refuse to face these… one day… it will catch up to us… and we will feel that who we are living as is a lie. We need to face these and accept who we are and how we became who we are.
And Kookie… Kookie is afraid to let go. The hooded man in the room shows him his fear… being alone with his hyungs. He doesn’t want this to happen. In the storyline from HYYH to Love Yourself… Everyone else chose to run away and stay away. Kookie doesn’t want that.
People around you may tell you that the only way to Love Yourself is forget the pain and the fears. But those are the things that make you who you are. And if you don’t face them now… it may come back and all you’ve worked for may feel like it is FAKE.
