so. so the rundown job. hardison smug and self-assured in the elevator because he knows eliot is there. the way eliot and parker were looking at hardison in while he was hacking the motion sensors. "how about a kiss for luck" "who needs luck" eliot and hardison's high five while parker flips through the lasers. eliot's little whistle at parker when she's holding the diamonds. "that thing you don't do anymore?" "i'm running with a different crowd. a hacker. and a thief." eliot trying to get them to leave dc. parker and hardison refusing to leave eliot alone. "for better or worse, we change together" the neck grab. "you're the smartest guy i've ever known, hardison." the entire scene defusing the bomb. eliot and parker watching hardison hack the car. eliot nodding at parker right before she goes in for the kiss with hardison. everything about this episode makes me insane.
Ok I just finished rewatching The Rundown Job and so far I have -
- The most ridiculously peacocking display of competence porn. What do you mean "'sup Eliot." What do you mean "who needs luck". Where is your damn shame? Where is hundred more episodes of just like this? 10/10 worth every watch.
- 'I've got a hacker *enter bf*, and a thief *enter gf*'
- Only Parker noticing 'too many cops'. It's such a cool detail throughout the show how observant she is just offhandedly, unlike Eliot who observes actively.
- Parker pretending to promptly fall asleep as soon as they're in the truck, only to have the handcuffs off in seconds.
- "What do they say about me? I hope they gave me a cool nickname." I'll bet all the kudos on my most popular fic that he hacks into his own pentagon file regularly to make up his own nickname.
- "Hell your girlfriend's already out of the cuffs" *Parker smiling and sliding them off* AND IT'S DIRECTED NOT TO HARDISON, HER EXPLICITLY STATED BOYFRIEND, BUT AT ELIOT, THEIR BOYFRIEND.
- Putting Hardison in those glasses. Those damn glasses. I need a glass of water jfc it's hot in here
- 'For better or worse, we change together'. Aaaaaand that's on wedding vows.
- "I'll drive." "Hold on." "Exactly." "No, I mean hold on. (Our gf is a former gateway car driver)". "Oh. Oh you mean. Yeah."
- The hand on the wrist and eye contact and saying 'I'm not afraid. I got the best thief and the smartest guy I know chasing this guy'
- HAND ON THE BACK OF THE NECK AND PULLING CLOSER 'HEY LISTEN TO ME YOU'RE THE SMARTEST GUY I'VE EVER KNOWN HARDISON I NEED THAT BRAIN TO GET ME TO HIM. GET ME TO HIM'. Screaming crying frothing at the mouth et cetera et cetera
- Figuring out the job TOGETHER
- This is Hardison. Hardison likes his personal space. These are Parker and Eliot. Parker and Eliot also like Hardison's personal space.
- The eyes on each other's lips during unlocking doors and saying thank you
- 'Kiss for luck?' the sequel: love boogaloo
- HACKING THE MF CAR HORN WITH AN SOS THROUGH A MOBILE PHONE
- "BOOM MY BOY THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!" first of all that's his boy so jot that down
- Also side note this episode shows the fascinating way Hardison uses his brain and I wish we saw more of it because it's fascinating how he derives what he does from the few bits of data he gathers
- "He's on the train!" "Yeah well so am I." "When you pick him out of the crowd-" "No. I'm ON the train! 🙄 Never mind..."
- Two good ole boys behind the wheel 🎶 chasing the target and their gf in a million dollar car 🎵 two good ole boys-
- *Hanging by her fingertips from a running train roof almost mashed into pulp by signage" WOOOOOO HOOOOO
- The way Parker picks him out, not by using thief sense, but mastermind sense that he's immune -> got vaccinated -> pain in the arm. Brilliant way to pick someone out from a crowd while not raising panic
- Keeping him talking till she takes the briefcase that he HANDCUFFED to himself right under his nose. How? Well, she's Parker.
- "I kept one diamond. Sorry." I love her
- Finally "kiss for luck" the trilogy comes to an end
- *casually endangers self* "Fire is the only thing that kills it right?"
- "Don't do that to me, I can't lose you. Do you understand? I can't lose you. Don't scare me like that. I can't-"
- Eliot Spencer: *Barks 'Alright!' at the guy touching him to literally patch up his bullet wound.* Also Eliot Spencer: *ditches crutches so he can lean on his girlfriend and boyfriend*
- "I work with them now." Would you like to stay for dinner? "Honor among thieves? Something like that." WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER??!!!
- "I don't do hospital." "I told you, he takes getting shot very lightly." Uh huh, you know what I smell? LOVE. In the air! Might be some blood from those bullet wounds too ig.
What a show.
- the understanding between parker and eliot
- the tiny nods, the resignation and sadness on her face
- hardison understanding too, but a second too late and not able to accept it the way they do
- how her voice shakes when she says "for luck" (she doesn't believe in luck) (it's a goodbye. they all know this.)
- after they kiss she grabs onto the side of his face and holds him to her, reminiscent of eliot doing so earlier. breathes with him a moment.
- one more look at eliot. his goodbye. (hardison still staring at her, leaning towards her, reaching to her)
- he nods again. a thank you. a goodbye. an "it makes us, us" and "we change together" and then they move at the same time, in different directions. the situation may be hopeless but they have to get it away from hardison.
- parker's crazy plan to kill it with fire. hardison's knowledge, eliot's protection making it possible, her brain making leaps to fit it all together and her taking the risk to make that happen
- (hardison running after her. he didn't know, eliot didn't know. it didn't matter really. if this didn't work they would all be infected regardless. but she still ran to take the case away from him. and he still ran after her.)
- "Don't do that to me, I can't lose you, do you understand? I can't lose you. Don't scare me like that. I can't..." (the last one so small and breathless) (reminiscent of eliot to hardison in grave danger job)
Leverage 5.09 — The Rundown Job
im normal about the rundown job.
Leverage, season 5 episode 10 "The Rundown Job"
me on my death bed: a-and tell them...tell them that the rundown job...is the...most....episode...........of.................................television
That thing where Elliot just appears out of nowhere and kicks someones arse. Yeah. That.
Eliot Spencer getting shot in Leverage 5x09 “The Rundown Job”
“This is a scene that people who love each other and love a show make and Dean, you shot the hell out of this. I mean, this is -” “I think it’s the best scene ever between Eliot and Hardison.” “Oh, absolutely.” “It’s the best scene we got out of these two, it’s like -” “We never got to do that. First time you ever see that ever between these two. You know it but you didn’t never get to see it.” “But that’s the thing, it’s always underneath, you know?” - John Rogers, Aldis Hodge, and Christian Kane, The Rundown Job DVD Commentary
The Leverage ot3’s three-way competence kink is so real and so crazy. Have any people ever before been so horny about other people Doing Their Jobs. I am always thinking about that bit in the beginning of The Rundown Job where directly in order we have Hardison deeply appreciating Eliot beating up guards, then Parker and Eliot both watching Hardison hack with visible boners in their eyes, and then Hardison and Eliot fist-bumping about Parker flipping through a laser grid. Like. Guys?
“Are you okay?” “Disarm the bomb.” - Leverage s05e09
“if mr. quinn was the sniper in the rundown job”, from this post
ok reblogging with propaganda
Rashomon Job:
Bottle episode (but also not!). The team learns that they were all separately after the same item once upon a time and all screwed each other's efforts in getting it over. There are goofs, there are gags. It's a good time.
Rundown Job:
*movie announcer voice* In an episode that breaks from the formula, three hot people in a polyamorous (if you squint or if you don't) relationship must race against the clock to stop a case of domestic terrorism.
You've got bio warfare, you've got "kiss for luck", you've got "I never get tired of that", you've got competence porn to beat all other competence porn. you've got eliot with short hair and that red shirt that says "wolf" in kanji. i could go on.
idk, if i were gonna claim an episode of leverage as "most episode of television" i wouldn't say it was rashomon job. i'd probably say it was rundown job.
"yeah of course you would say that" but like, no, im right
How to defuse a bomb: OT3 Edition
You know what I love about this scene, besides everything? It perfectly illustrates how their relationship works.
Eliot is the stability; the steady, grounding presence; he’s loyal; he makes things safe. He provides a foundation Hardison and Parker can fall back on without fear.
Hardison is the key; without him it doesn’t work; he’s the one who knows what’s needed of him and plants himself with unwavering trust and patience. Without him, Parker and Eliot can only go so far. Hardison is the one who makes the impossible possible.
Parker is the risk-taker; she needs Hardison and Eliot to guide her and support her but she’s the one they follow. When Parker sees a problem, she tackles it, even if the solution seems strange or scary to others. If she believes in it, she makes it work; “for better or worse”.
@pale-silver-comb I realize that I’m kind of being redundant in adding this, but I have to copy-paste this thing I wrote elsewhere about this exact scene:
“It’s the essence of their relationship given physical expression. If you had to come up with some sort of interpretive dance to depict the nature of the OT3, this would be it. They’re all perfectly balanced, mutually supporting and protecting each other. Take any of them away and this move doesn’t work. Eliot’s the sturdy foundation, there to provide support wherever it’s needed. Hardison needs his moment to freak out (fair), but then he’s there, strong and steady and so in awe of these people he loves, prepared to give them whatever they need to accomplish whatever crazy thing they decide to do. And Parker defies gravity, defies expectations, reaches out to do the impossible because she’s just that good and she knows her boys won’t ever, ever drop her. But also, this is about the most unconventional way to disarm a mine you could possibly imagine. It is so ridiculously extra, and it works for them. I cannot think of a better visual metaphor for their relationship.”
Because can I just say how much I love that it looks like we’re paraphrasing each other here? Like we were both given an essay question saying, “Explain the significance of this scene as a metaphor for the relationship between Parker, Hardison, and Eliot.”
This is why I’ve fallen headfirst into this fandom – the show is so deliberately constructed that it’s practically begging the audience to analyze all the little character moments, and the fans are so thoughtful and enthusiastic in doing so.
Oh hey, don’t mind me – just reblogging @letsstealsomethiefjuice‘s tags over here for posterity / in case you needed MORE reasons to obsess over this scene:
#YES THIS MY GOD #I don’t know how many times it took me #to realize that Parker actually uses Eliot’s bent knee #to step up and that Eliot is waiting to grab her leg #but it was this moment that made it click in my head #because it would be easy to assume this is a parker and alec moment #they get the banter they get the flirty closeness #but the only reason they feel safe enough to do that #with alec literally standing on a bomb #is because as always eliot is watching their backs #the three of them together can do anything stop anything #so they all just seamlessly slide into each other’s atmosphere #and know what the other needs without saying a word
Christian was even talking about it in the commentaries- Eliot is literally holding both their weight here. He is supporting Hardison from behind as a brace, and he is the counterweight for Parker when she bends over. This scene literally does not work if Eliot isn’t there for them to rely on.
Also, fun fact, these aren’t stunties. Beth, Aldis, and Christian just did this. (Cue John Rogers screaming in the background.)
I’m pretty much morally obligated to reblog this post every time I see it. Not just an Eliot post but again, he comes in a three-pack and it’s an excellent analysis of the trio.
Specific to Eliot, as noted, he’s the rock for both Parker and Hardison. It’s beautiful.
Whether you read them romantically or not (and BOY HOWDY I DO!!), they’re a very strong grouping. I don’t make the rules.
