I wish I could find any joy in this turn of events but I really don't. I can't believe Killian killed Emma's grandfather. I don't think I'll be able to get over it. I'm never be over this. How could the writers do this to us??

Hey! I’m sorry you feel that way. But I don’t agree that the writers have wronged us. (Good and serious) writers don’t write shows for fandoms, they write shows for the general audience. Fandoms get overly attached to characters, they analyze every detail to exhaustion, they live these characters and the stories in ways not even the writers themselves do. They take things personally. So of course, to us, this is a much bigger blow, because our emotional investment is way up there. For the general audience? It’s super entertaining and juicy. I am certain that those who watch the show just as a way to pass the time loved last night’s twist and are curious to see how this will be resolved.

Just to give you an example: I watch OUAT live and then on the next day I rewatch it, but this time with my sister (who is watching for the first time). She isn’t in the fandom, she’s part of the general audience. She likes CS but doesn’t think about them except for those minutes they’re on her screen every week. Over the last couple of months, she’s told me the show is super boring now and the only reason she keeps watching it is because it sort of became part of our sisterly bonding. Today, when she was watching the episode, she was THRILLED with the twist. She told me something along the lines of “finally this gets interesting again!”. And for the first time in a long time, she genuinely seemed excited for next week. This reaction is the reaction the writers were looking for, the one that made them take this route. They’re not concerned with what overly invested fangirls think (it’s sad but it’s also the truth). And for that I say they achieved exactly what they were going for. Kudos to them.

I'm trying, I really am but I just don't see why they'd assassinate Killian's character and have him kill his true love's grandfather?? All for the sake of drama and angst!

No character was assassinated tonight. What we saw Hook doing at the end of the episode was very much in character for the person he used to be. I think that’s part of the problem, many people seem to forget how awful and ruthless he actually was.

I understand that it’s something that makes us sad (and some even frustrated), but not liking the implications of Hook having killed David’s father is different from it being character assassination.

Was it for drama and angst? Yes, it was, but I actually think it made sense and was well put together. It wasn’t something that was completely out of the blue and contrived. And it clearly looks like they’ll be exploring this and not brushing it under the rug. I thought it was a clever move and I am excited to see where this goes.

Would I have preferred that Killian hadn’t killed Emma’s grandfather? Yes, but I just don’t see it as much of a big deal because it’s beyond proven he’s not that person anymore and he’s truly changed - he proved it again tonight. Besides, this is the same guy who killed his own father. From the moment we found out Hook did that, he honestly could have done anything. Including killing a random man he had no idea would eventually be the grandfather of his One True Love.

I just came across your post about renewal prospects and I totally agree! This is the 1st year that the show is in danger but it DEF is, & I think it'll be more of an uphill battle than people are assuming. SpottedRatings have it at 49%, so literally everyone thinks it's a true tossup. (TVLine isn't even a ratings site) I honestly do think projected ratings & contracts being up affected story decisions. I'm sure there are some things they won't gamble on not getting to show, like the CS wedding.

Hi! Yeah, I definitely think cancellation is a more serious threat than some people seem to be making of it. I don’t blame them, until about a month ago I was also completely convinced the show would be renewed (mainly because of my own ignorance and laziness to get informed). But now with the ratings hitting a series low with 6x11,  cancellation became an even more serious threat.

Having said that, I agree with you, I think the story decisions were affected both by contracts being up + possible cancellation. I personally think that applies to the CS wedding, too. What I don’t agree with (and cannot understand) is when people try to put certain actors under the bus by stating that the path A&E decided to take the characters/couples in 6B is only related to certain actors acting like divas with their contracts. All of this while completely dismissing that the show is in actual danger of being cancelled and that that may have also affected A&E’s story decisions. To me it’s very obviously a combination of both the low ratings and possible cancellation + some actors leaving the show. But I guess to some it’s easier to just use one actress/actor as scapegoat for everything else.

I saw your reply re: Graham being the most attractive man on the show and that Jen thought the same. Where has she ever said that?

Hi! Jen has never specifically said Graham was the most attractive man on the show, but at Paleyfest ‘12 she referred to Jamie Dornan as “one of the hottest men on the planet”. The rest is my assumption because I have never seen her describe any of her other past and present OUAT male co-stars in such an emphatic way, which makes me think that, if for her Jamie is one of the hottest men on the planet, he’ll certainly be ranked pretty high up in the list of hottest men on OUAT. And that is in tune with my personal opinion/preference.

really hope they dont do this reset thing. I hate the idea of Colin and Jen not being on it

Hi! I don’t like it either. I just wish we would get a final season 7 with the main characters and then that was it. But I don’t think that will happen, sadly. With this casting call coming out, I think that if we get a season 7 it will be with new characters plus some “old” ones so they can see if they can successfully pass the torch to new stories/characters and keep the show going.

Honestly, at this point, I would prefer cancellation to this reset thing, even if Jen and Colin are on it. Why? I may be way off, but I think both of them are on completely opposite ends as far as willingness to remain on the show goes. Their careers have been completely different so far - I do believe Colin is more dependent on the show than Jen is and that is perfectly understandable when you look at their professional backgrounds - and that’s why I can see Colin wanting to stay on the show for as long as possible. We know Jen doesn’t feel the same. She has already revealed fatigue (off-screen) and has admitted that being on OUAT forever isn’t something she wants. So even if they both are on this reboot and the show really does keep going, unless their participation is limited to just one more season, I think sooner or later we may risk losing Jen while Colin stays on the show and I think that seriously puts at stake a happy ending for CS. And while I do believe that Jen and Colin love CS and are protective of them, I do not believe for a second they will put a fictional relationship ahead of their professional/personal interests (and they shouldn’t). And as popular as CS is, networks are money-making machines. If ABC can’t keep Jen/Emma, I am absolutely sure that will not stop them from trying to keep Colin/Hook.

So yes, right now, I think that what 100% guarantees us a happy ending for CS, both short and long term, is season 6 being the last because I am 99% sure they will get married this season.

But maybe I’m wrong and it’s still possible that we will have CS for another season and no more than that (which would be the perfect scenario). We just have to wait and see.

Could the stand-ins be for Emma and Tiger Lily?

Hey! Yeah, I forgot about Tiger Lily in my original post, but I think those could definitely the stand-ins for both Emma and Tiger Lily. Let’s hope we get some confirmation soon!

What do you think of the spoilers? It looks like Killian will go on an adventure with other women and no Emma which means no CS adventure :(

I definitely think Killian will go on an adventure alone with Ariel and Jasmine while Emma is probably away with Aladdin handling Savior business (or something happened to her, we don’t know). Not only did the wording A&E use point to that, but Karen David has tweeted Colin and Joanna stuff related to filming - I doubt she would exclude Jen if she had been filming with them too. And Colin and Karen were filming last night while Jen was already in LA so, again, everything seems to point to Emma not being there with Killian, Jasmine and Ariel.

BUT Killian possibly going on an adventure with Ariel and Jasmine in no way means we won’t also have a CS adventure sometime in the future. The writers made a point of mentioning that whatever Killian, Ariel and Jasmine are up to is related to a challenge both Killian AND Emma are facing - and there’s no way we won’t get to see that challenge and all that is to it, so the big focus seems to be the CS challenge, not the K/A/J adventure.

I get the fandom being frustrated, I get that way too (and personally not caring much about Ariel and/or Jasmine doesn’t help and I could do without them being paired with one of my favorite characters), but we really have no idea how any of this will turn out so let’s just wait and see and not assume everything is doomed.

I completely agree with you (Colin and not wanting to watch the movie). Thank you for saying that. I'm tired of people dictating how others should be feeling and what makes a real fan and what doesn't. Don't want to watch the movie right now because it feels weird seeing Colin acting with other women. And I don't ship colifer either it's just about Captain Swan. It just feels weird and I don't like seeing it. I like to think that doesn't mean I don't support Colin or that I'm not a fan.

Hi! A good portion of this fandom loves to be patronizing and to tell you how you should feel and think. And when it comes to Colin God-on-Earth-who-can-do-no-wrong O’donoghue, it’s even worse.

What you described is the most common reaction that I’ve found in other fandoms from my previous ships: people just aren’t too comfortable in watching any of the actors that play their OTP in other roles and acting romantically with other actors. In most cases, that has nothing to do with the actors themselves or shipping them in real life but all to do with the level of attachment to the fictional couple they portray. I mean, I don’t doubt that for those who actually believe Colin and Jen are in love this is a low blow to them and they probably hate it, but assuming that shipping them is the reason why everyone doesn’t want to watch the movie is just plain silly and narrow. Different people “fan” differently and no one can say what makes one a good fan or not. No one gets to define that but yourself, really.

Imho seeing Colin as just his character isn't that much better than openly sexually objectifying him, objectification doesn't always need to be sexual; he is an actual human being, and not being interested in a different project of his shouldn't necessarily be tied to not wanting to see him play any other character. Also, while totally agreed that sometimes comments about him are downright creepy, there's also such a thing as personal fantasies and I'm not keen on judging other women for them

Well, we’ll have to agree to disagree then. It’s actually quite baffling to me how you put both on the same level. It’s not even a question of “seeing Colin as just his character”. I’m 100% sure everyone here is aware Colin is not Hook and that he will play other characters in other projects. Some people just got here and got to know Colin because of their love for the fictional character he plays in OUAT and, at the high of their enthusiasm over Hook and Captain Swan, make a very conscious decision of not wanting to see Colin, the actor, playing other characters in other projects. For whatever reasons they may have. This is a decision that affects the people choosing to not watch his other projects. How does that diminish/influence any of his value as an actor or even as a person? How is this just as bad as sexually objectifying him? Why should this be condemned? Does being a fan of a fictional character immediately require people to be fans of the actors who play said characters and to follow them in everything else they do? Because I really don’t get that. It’s almost cult-like mentality to me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THAT. I HATE it when people in this fandom try to spew innuendos based on metaphors for his p*nis cause that's just gross and also a very disgusting objectification of him. Even the disproportionality in this fandom -- Colin's pictures get much more attention than Jen's and while Jen is "beautiful", for Colin it's about him being sexy and then people commenting how their panties dropped. It's so disturbing. And then the crotch pictures are just creepy tbh.

Oh yes, for sure. I think it’s very obvious that anything Jen related doesn’t get anywhere near the same attention in fandom as Colin’s does. I could stay here all day talking about the reasons why I think that happens, but ultimately it’s really just a fandom thing. Not to be mean towards Colin, but from what has already personally happened to me with people who don’t watch the show, Jennifer Morrison is a recognizable name while Colin still gets a “Colin who?” reaction if you talk about him. Which isn’t to say that can’t change anytime soon. I hope he gets to have a successful career to the point where his name will at least be somewhat familiar to people. But I digress. Regarding the objectification, I am happy I don’t come across much objectification of Jen, though - I really don’t need anyone acting towards her (or anybody, really) the same way some act towards Colin. I hope it stays that way.

loved your answer about sexual objectification. i feel the same way. i feel ppl say inappropriate things about colin and i always feel i'm being "the boring one". like, things about his wife or his body. or people saying "i'm not watching THIS colin movie because he's kissing someone else other than jen and it bothers me" like? it bothers me idk why.

Hi! Yeah, you’re definitely not alone as far as the sexual objectification goes. But I totally understand those who say they don’t want to watch the movie because he’s acting romantically opposite somebody else. I think it’s normal that right now some people are way too attached to Captain Swan (what got us to know Colin in the first place) that they find it hard to detach Colin from Hook/CS, hence making it hard for them to watch him (or Jen) acting romantically with other people while playing other characters. Personally, I don’t see why that would bother anyone - we’re all here first and foremost because of CS/Hook/Emma. People’s “faithfulness” should be towards the characters and not the actors portraying them. I sure don’t feel an ounce of guilt for not caring about Colin’s career outside of OUAT. I never said I was here for that and I assume the same thing about anyone who got in this fandom in the first place because of CS and/or Hook and/or Emma. Bottom line is: I love Hook, not Colin - again, how do you even love someone you know nothing about? That whole concept is strange to me.

Just out of curiosity-at what point do you think admiring someones looks turns into sexual objectification? Not an accusing question genuinely curious what you think

Hi! No problem, I know it’s a controversial topic so I have no issue talking about at what point that thin line is crossed.

It’sobjectification when all people do is praise Colin’s physical attributes mostof the time with very little praise of his qualities as an actor. In otherwords, when the comments on his body largely outweigh the comments on whatmakes him a famous person and someone in the limelight – his acting. It’s notthat people don’t also praise him for his acting abilities, but from what Icome across, there is a significant unbalance in what he’s “appreciated” for.

re: the dark one hook/emma anon. they alsomade it clear that snow and charming had removed the darkness from emma, the curse affected her differently. emma took it on willingly, he did not (as you mentioned was willing to die so emma could forge the dagger and excalibur). it doesn't excuse his actions but he chose to be sacrificed to right his wrongs.

Yes, the fact that Emma had the darkness removed from her surely played a role in it, although I think it’s not just because of that that the DO curse affected her differently than it did Killian.

Unlike Killian, Emma had never fallen into a dark path before, she never really knew how it was like to have the darkness consume her. Killian did, and it lasted for centuries. I believe that, regardless of how much he is a changed man now, there will always be some residual darkness inside of him, but now he is able to control it and to not let it take over him and his actions. So of course he would be an easier prey to the DO curse than Emma ever was, which pretty much took advantage of those dark remainders in him and unleashed them in titanic proportions. It’s really just a question of looking at both of their life experiences and the paths they took. Regarding the DO curse, Emma comes from a context that provided her a much greater chance to resist and fight the darkness way better than Killian.

And in the end what truly matters is that Killian chose love over darkness and he fixed everything. That’s clearly what we’re meant to take from the DO storyline. Only haters with character and shipper goggles can’t see that.
