I just wanted to recommend the Ghosts Of War series by Eden22. Solid writing and fantastic storytelling. It’s an AU of sorts but not really? They try to be faithful to history and provide citations.

I’d like to rec this AMAZING fic that just got posted today; it is long and I can tell it’s going to be angsty but it’s honestly something I’m super excited for. The premise is that the mask never came off of Bucky in the winter soldier and it goes from there. I can’t do it justice in a synopsis!

When he turned to look at Steve there was laughter in his eyes and a touch of heat in his smile.
Dating a civilian was always risky. Luckily, Bucky seemed like a nice, genuine guy and Steve knew he could gently reject him with the smallest shrug and that Bucky would accept his decision easily. It was the smart thing to do.

Until it all goes terribly wrong, naturally. Featuring memory loss, false memories, identity porn, heavy suspense, and a happy ending.

James hardly knows Steve, but the man he used to be adored him with single-minded ferocity. Worshiped him with the purity of purpose that zealots reserve for their gods. It isn’t really surprising that devotion like this could persevere, adapting through death and rebirth.
Maybe this is what fools experience when they claim love at first sight. A passion too profound to ignore, despite the fact that it’s groundless. Loyalty, fondness, and intimacy that spring into being without reason. Love built on quicksand.
I’d like to rec they’re going to send us to prison for jerks by napricot. I just finished reading it and it was great!

I'm sorry, I'm normally very good at looking through your tags and at searching through AO3, but I've no idea where to start with this one. I'm looking for a fic where Steve doesn't initially recognise the Winter Soldier as Bucky, but sees that something isn't as it seems and decides to help him anyway, with Bucky's identity revealed at the end. Steve invites him into his apartment and gives him privacy while he eats, leaves food for him. What tags could I use to search for this even??

Pierce was an intelligent man. If the Asset was going to start remembering Rogers, it was best to give him an assignment other than the simple, point and shoot. The Asset’s Mission: Pretend he was James “Bucky” Barnes, best friend to Steve Rogers. He was to evaluate Rogers and see if Rogers could be used by HYDRA…or be put down if the Asset thought otherwise.
The Asset now has to pretend to be Bucky Barnes, unknowing that he is in fact the man that Steve has been searching for all along. Pierce instructed the Asset to gain trust, observe, and report. How far is the Asset supposed to go to avoid his cover being blown? He guesses he’s just going to have to find out…
