Steve is the heir to a throne he does not want, and Bucky is the neglected third child waiting to be married off and forgotten about. Trapped in unhappy lives by seemingly immovable circumstances, they find a way out in each other.

Prince James is the “People’s Prince”, second in line for the throne of the United States, and the most eligible bachelor in the world.

So why does Steve find Prince James crying at the Princess’ wedding?

(Soon-to-be) Prince James has no interest in preserving the tradition that his future stepsister, the well-respect and highly-revered Princess Margaret, worked so desperately to maintain. His only interest lies in the tall, blonde artist, commissioned to paint a new family portrait to commemorate the upcoming royal wedding and sparking nothing more than a little sibling rivalry.

Steve looks at the copy of the magazine in his hands. There, in big bold letters were the words:

The tragic and unexpected death of His Royal Highness Prince Joseph Grimaldi Rogers Erskine shook Genovia and the entire world, but it seems like not all is lost for the royal line! Their child, His Royal Highness Steven Grant Joseph Grimaldi Rogers Erskine, has been living a quiet life in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, since his birth. It is unclear if Prince Steven has been aware of his princely status for all this time. He is now the next in line for the throne and possible future King of Genovia. No official statements have been made by the Royal House of Genovia or King Abraham Erskine himself.

The one where Steve finds out he’s a Prince and doodles frantically on his art journal (mostly about Bucky), Bucky writes love songs (mostly about Steve), they pine, and everyone thinks they’re together—except them, of course.

Prince Steven and Sir James are not meant to be in love. Steve is the Crowned Prince meant to rule with grace and dignity and James is a lowly countryside knight lucky enough to be invited to court. Courtship, for them, is not in the stars.

But when Queen Sarah makes an shocking announcement, and Steve finds himself in the comfort of the knight he shouldn’t love, they find themselves unable to deny the truth any longer.

Steve’s duty is to his country. James’ duty is to his prince.

The stars are not in their favor. Unless, of course, they can change them.

After a close brush with death, Steve is brought to Valhalla. He watches Bucky back on Earth, and misses him. Thor sees Steve’s pain and helps him perform a ritual meant to give closure, but things don’t go exactly as planned.

Will Bucky be married to his best friend? Will he finally get to act on the love he and Steve have been sharing for each other? He’ll just have to wait and see who lifts his veil on his wedding night.
