OUAT APPRECIATION WEEK 2024 - FAVORITE ORIGIN STORY I fell in love with you on a troll bridge after you robbed me and hit me over the head with a rock. I knew what I was getting myself into.
Fandom is so different now and it’s becoming un-fun with how quickly shit moves.
I just want to enjoy things. I don’t want to have to play a game of Artist-Race that seems to be afoot lately.
Ya’ll eat up fandoms, leave artists and writers bone dry and then move on so fucking quickly then fucking wonder where all the Good Fandom Stuff is.
Idk Maybe cherish some things for longer. Reblog stuff. Interact with people. Comment and share.
Fandom is Capitalism now and I’m not being nuanced.
people also seem obsessed with only Doing Fandom about currently active works?
“oh, I’m so sad that show ended! I really miss the fandom!” who said you have to leave, coward
Fun fact: You are part of keeping a fandom alive. Every interaction, every person in a fandom has their own part to play. If that’s reblogging art, fanfics or making cursed edits, that’s good enough.
Fandom is for community, not consumption.

sooo desperate to rewrite some of my fics that I'm not happy with but wooo weeeee the energy & effort to reread stuff I think is actively cringe. makes me wanna close my laptop & hide away like pleassseeee 💀
that's so real of you 🤧 a few months ago I went back to rewrite the very first thing I posted on ao3 roughly one and a half year ago and BOY the embarrassment that overtook me was unparalleled. like girl, YOU wrote this? (70% derogatory 20% affectionate 10% forgetful) but it was worth it in the end !! I recommend doing it, but it's also a pain in the ass !!
oh god for real 🤧 I've wanted to do it since I posted the fics but ! kicking screaming crying !! one [1 ☝️] day I shall conquer the scary world of my past writing 🤧🤧
Listen.
I'm sure I'd be in the same boat if I were y'all. We're always so so so critical of ourselves, our own worst critic. But very very gently, let me say to you: no one else is holding you to that high of a standard. No one. Not one person.
Everything you've written before led you to where you are now. There is no "better writing" of today without the "cringy" writing of yesterday. Yesterday's writing is the foundation of today. Be kind to the writing your younger creative self put out! You were so happy with it, so proud of it, that you (presumably) put it up on AO3 or FF.net and used it as a way to engage with other fans. That is incredibly important! It's brave! And I assume (and hope) everyone was nice to you about it and complimented your work, because they enjoyed it and were grateful you posted it so they could read it. That's what fandom is all about!
And assuming it is on AO3, you can rest easy knowing that no one is looking at it right now or judging you for it. It's safe. It's older, so the most likely way for someone to find it is for them to read one of your new works, like it, and then go through and see what else you've written. Which is great, because they're already going to be looking at your older stuff through rose-colored glasses, because they like you!
That being said, I completely understand the desire to take what you've learned through your craft and apply that to some of your old works. I think that's totally natural and admirable. I've done this before, too, and I've found that the best way to do it is to treat your older work like a rough draft, or a first draft. Save a copy of it in a separate document and go through it with a hypothetical red pen. Rewrite to your heart's content, add to it, knowing that you already have a solid base and all you're doing is polishing it up and bringing it up to your current skill level. Have fun with it! Just please be kind to yourself ✌🏻

Once Upon A Time Appreciation Week 2024!
Day 1: Favorite Character: Cruella De Vil (featuring Ursula because I love her too)
My favorite version of Cruella and she is the only one who has gotten the dalmatian coat. She also came so so close to being the Queen of the Underworld in season 5. I do love her so much.
Picture this.
Killian, Emma, and Henry are settling in for a movie night. The DVD starts up, and this warning comes up on the screen:
Killian: ......
Emma: ......
Henry: ......
Killian: you know what ELSE isn't a victimless crime
Emma: oh God, here we go
Killian: feckless, coward kings who can't even amass the scrap of honor it would take to do their own dirty work--
Henry: make it stop
Killian: --and send innocent men to their deaths without so much as a sliver of--
Emma: *jamming the fast forward button on the remote as Killian goes on* It won't let me skip it!
Dude it is SO FUN and EXCITING to see a reoccurring reader. If you've commented a handful of times on an author's work, I guarantee that they recognize you. You can't imagine how many times I've excitedly informed my friends "the person with the funny cat image commented!" "- anon is back!!!!" and the friends've recognized who I was talking about because I talk about my commenters so often LOL. We love you all!!!
