Look, I found new pics of cruel king dad.
In Gladiator, Commodus is the cruel prince and shitty son for an emperor father who wishes he would be better ( despite he as parent did absolutely nothing for that to happen, but that is another issue). He craves for paternal approbation, but his father despises his lack of morals.
In Troy, Agamemnon is a tyranical king that seems to have no heirs. We see no prince in his palace of Mycenae.
They would be a happyly shitty cruel king dad and cruel prince son duo. Aga is the father that would love Commodus as he is.
I'm in the mood for other short troy meta debating with some of the most common perceptions I have seen about the film.
Following the line of my other posts on the topic, I want to talk of how I never understood the claim that Achilles' thirst for vengeance was cheapened or downplayed because it was made about a relative.
Here i'm going for the " WHO cares that much about their cousin?" argument.
Look, I totally understand people can be frustrated because they expected romance and the movie made it about family, but HOW is it any less of a tragedy because they are related? In the film, Patroclus is not just his cousin. Not only he was little brother coded, the story makes it clear that Achilles feels very responsible for him since the lad became an orphan.
Fun fact: in the (luckly rejected) first draft of the script he was going to be his son. When Benioff did the rewriting, the family relation was changed to cousins, but something of the spirit in the first script remained in their dynamic.
Like i said before, it also had a plot function creating a pretty much in your face parallel with Hector and Paris.
Patroclus being like the little brother Achilles feels responsible for and he failed to protect brings him even closer to Hector. He is moved by the same motivation causing the death of Menelaus, Hector knows he is a dead man the same way the spartan king seiled his demise when he threatened Paris. It even creates a tragic parallel between Achilles and Agamemnon!
At the start of the film Agamemnon has for Troy the intentions of a colonizer. Destroying it is not in his original plan, he wanted to take over the economical and militar control keeping the trojan rulling class enslaved to mycenaean interests. The death of his beloved brother triggers this monstruous thirst for vengeance the movie uses as vehicle to explain the horrors of the sack of Troy.
In a similar way, Achilles' plans for his eventual combat with Hector were merely about personal glory. When he has the first chance of killing him, he doesn't do it because he doesn't have enough audience to make it epic, and he has nothing personal against him. With the death of Patroclus, he ends up desecrating the body of Hector guided by the same blind rage Agamemnon keeps since the death of his brother. The marks he leaves on the remains of Troy's fallen hero are an omen for the wounds Agamemnon will inflict in Troy itself later on.
In both cases, it leads to their deaths, but with different meanings. Agamemnon is at the peak of his vengeance during the destruction of Troy, he orders for no one to be spared and attempts to attack Briseis as perfect culmination of it.
His death is not only a defensive act, but a revenge for the whole fallen city. In contrast, Achilles feels remorse for what he has done, gets inside the horse with the sole purpose of fixing something up, and ends up paying with his life when Paris gets revenge for his brother.
Unlike Agamemnon, who is surprised by death while going through the more evil version of that peak on revenge satisfaction he experienced when he dragged Hector's body with his charriot, he embraced the death he knew was awaiting him as a redeeming experience.
Achilles cares for his cousin with the same affection Agamemnon and Hector had for their little brothers. He killed Hector moved by the same grief leading Agamemnon to destroy Troy in memory of his brother because Hector couldn't watch his own brother die.
The film presents a tragedy structured on a chain of revenges moved by family. You are totally valid in disliking that, but it doesn't make it any less tragic.
Troy has some of my favorite platonic tropes all smashed together, just look at this combo:
I really like how you already characterized Agamemnon. Hes a bastard we all know that but hes rough and seductive as well. Thats a great characterization. That chin grab did many things to me. None of which are sfw.
Thanks!
I pay a lot of attention to details on the film itself when it comes to forming characterizations. Most of my writing for Agamemnon so far has been from the father role on the context of an Achilles x Reader multichapter fic where the reader is his daughter. No one has requested a x reader for him yet, so I'm gonna see how it turns out.
That being said, your request gave me a first chance to start analizing the character from a different perspective that I didn't consider before. To that I notice that he has his good amount of charm despite being a piece of shit. Even when Menelaus puts on a nicer facade ( when not pissed off), I suspect Agamemnon can get to be more charming with the ladies than him.
In the party scene on Sparta, Menelaus looks like an excited manchild arround his dancers. Through the film Agamemnon keeps a more intimidating approach, but one can imagine its part of how he views seduction. The way he smiles to Briseis when Achilles leaves his tent seems to me way more charming that whatever his younger bro was doing when partying hard.
Compare the image of Menelaus drinking with that dancer on his lap to Agamemnon's chin grabbing subtly touching the lips of Briseis. ( Just the images, let's ignore contexts or this gets weird) and you will get my point.
One is too direct and boring, the other one has a sort of provocative feeling.
Agamemnon is way more subtle even when he is attempting to be direct. He likes to keep the image of a mighty king who won't downgrade himself for wanting some girl and he likes control. That's why he goes for the intimidation mixed with seduction thing, and I think in a less shady context where the girl is not escaping from him it can actually work. He seems more smooth than his brother, that would play in his favor.
I never made myself this question before, but Agamemnon gotta be the hottest one of both following this patterns.
Agamemnon gets a bath Anon here. I'd prefer it be reader insert, not into briseis/agamemnon (too much non con for me) just the frustration that he feels toward achilles being released by having a nice smutty tub time lol. Still with him being angry though. I like a angry Brian.
Hi, anon!
Thanks for clarifying, because without explanations I initially thought this was a dark-dubcon sort of request given the context in which he enounces that phrase in the film ( which is threatening poor Briseis to provoke the anger of Achilles). Since there was no much context provided for the fic idea in the first ask you sent, I accidentally thought this was a reader is in the place of Briseis kind of thing.
Just Agamemnon having a bath prepared by the reader as she relaxes him through it out of the anger Achilles causes him would be nicer and way easier to write for me.
Do you write smut? Agamemnon gets that bath he wanted?
Wooow, my first Agamemnon request.
I do can write smut and have written a few ones, but I don't consider myself great at it. Warning being made, I will give this one a chance cause i know it's a character there is no one else writing for at the moment. In fact, I never got to write anything not platonical for him yet.
That being said, I must also ask:
Do you want it as an Agamemnon x Reader, or were you asking for an Agamemnon x Briseis?
I would rather keep it as a reader insert, but tell me what you prefer.
Now that i think about it, Agamemnon's scenes with Briseis have an intriguing energy that makes me wish we would have got more scenes of them interacting because I'm so curious about that. Like, he is being a creep to her but it doesn't feel the same than when the common men are tossing her to each other in the scene when Achilles saves her.
He is seductive in comparison, quite charming. Agamemnon is being so disgusting with her, but as soon as Achilles leaves he gives her this look:
Through his scenes with her I have enough to work with Agamemnon as a character and how he approaches women. There is this subtle combination of seduction an intimidation, it's almost like he flirts that way.
If the King of Mycenae threatens with making your life misserable keeping you for his amusement, that's just the way he says you got his attention.
Yet even when he is trully angry and means to harm the lady, the scene gets this strange vibe that is kinda hot from a dark perspective.
Like here, observe how he looks at her and the body language. His thumb almost caressing her chin as the rest of the hand is pressing her neck:
He wants revenge, he trully means to harm her, yet the way he acts and talks gives me something else. He is whispering at her all the horrible suffering he is craving to inflict on her for almost ruining the war for him.
The tone of the threats says one thing, but he does it a certain way that feels kinda intimate. if this scene would have happened with a Loki kind of villian, the internet would have gone crazy about it.
Agamemnon is such a piece of shit, but so fun to write about from so many perspectives and I have never explored this one so far.

Troy (2004) Oneshot
Warnings: Agamemnon's parenting ( although he is a bit soft here)
Summary: Talks about a secret weapon leave the mycenaean king in an unusual position having to explain himself to the curious princess sneaking to spy on his war council.
Note: Based on my Achilles x Mycenaean Princess!Reader series. This is a scene i think about recurrently, despite there is no good spot in it to include it because it belongs to a past way before the actions of the fic take place. ( As it is implied, she is arround 10-12 when Achilles is a young lad call to fight for the first time under Agamemnon's command.)
In the spirit of my celebration, I decided to write it down and show it to you.

The celebration of councils was a mere formality in Mycenae, since King Agamemnon would always do his will. The next step in his planning for conquests didn't require much intervention of the local noblemen, so the meeting became more of a space for surface level discussion apparenting transparency.
Everything depended of Odysseus, but the eldest son of Atreus trusted in his capacity for the mission he entrusted him. His trickery would handle it, and he had good proof of that in home observing the fast work in charming his own daughter.
Young enough to still be considered a child, but not exactly a little girl anymore, the signs of her growth were showing on the sudden will to mind on his business.
Once the throne room got emptied of his men she walked in with the silent steps of a cat, only to end up discovered giving a peek on the map extended on a table near the seat of the king.
" I don't recall to have ordered you shall be instructed in cartography. "
The girl turned back inmediately and observed the severe semblant of the king as if she tried to read his mood in order to adapt her excuse.
" Nestor taught me anyways, he said reading maps is a valuable skill even if I will never be the one leading a ship or planning how to take our men to battle. Men who do those things would value my understandment of their ways. "
He gave her a half a smile. Less out of love or endearment, and more like an ironical taunt.
" You were eavesdropping again."
The tone was calm, but not for that she stopped expecting traces of fury.
Denying her guilt would have only made it worse.
" They were speaking of a secret weapon you are about to adquire that would change the course of war … "
Agamemnon was willing to indulge her curiosity only because it flattered him.
" Not just one, every single war in our lifetime. If rumours turn out to be true, Greece will bow to me. "
Explanations confused her even more, since her father spoke as if he had just stolen the lightning bolt of Zeus.
" What kind of weapon shall do such thing? "
He was definitely on a good mood, or otherwise the sharing would have stopped there.
" An invincible soldier, one man worth for an army that shall fight for me. The lad is hard to convince, but I have someone working on that. "
She had a vague idea of who that person could be. If a master of persuasion was needed, her father would have only called for him.
The possibility for a visit of Odysseus, friend of the family she actually considered a friend, was enough to keep her interested.
" Will he deliver the lad to us? At very least to join our army, he has to swear loyalty to you."
The king easily spotted where the ask was coming from.
" Achilles would never swear to submit, but I don't need that in order to unleash him upon the ones resisting against my power. "
He gave a few steps closer in her direction. For an instant, she doubted if he tried to reach out, but it was only to take away the map.
" Don't expect any visitors, I will be leaving for war and meeting them there. "
The answer disencouraged her for obvious reasons: she hoped to see the ithacan soon.
" Such a shame, the bright of the city could have impressed him into commitment. I can't imagine a young hero that wouldn't seek consecration here. "
What she seeked was to trick her father into thinking a visit was the best idea, simply so her friend would be circunstantially forced to return with the warrior.
However, the argumentation wouldn't be completed without a justification proper of the image of her the king liked to keep in his mind. Some shallow reason he could easily attribute to an attention seeking girl.
" Besides, boys visiting means plenty of gifts for me. Their fathers allways want them to flatter me hoping I would be their wife someday and your riches would engross their wealth. "
Wrong guess; Agamemnon showed open disdain for the motive.
" It would not be that sort of visit: he is a common orphan with no roots, no flag, and no respect for anyone. His lack of bonds make him the perfect weapon, since there is nothing standing in the way and he has no one to live for."
The description distracted her of her selfish reasons, making her feel a hard to translate unease for the utilitary vision of her father regarding someone whose life sounded like a sad tale to her.
" … But if we encourage him, he would get somewhere to belong in and perhaps you would win his loyalty. "
" He will belong in my army. " Agamemnon cutted her off terminantly. " And you will get to see Odysseus in another ocassion."
A breach of curiosity was briefly opened through his evasive attitude.
" I like visitors of all kinds, they bring news and more life to the palace. "
Agamemnon didn't remain skeptical of her said and felt for once inclined to explain his strange reaction.
" You are still a child, not yet a young maiden, but I wouldn't accept the gifts that lad could bring for you if that would be the case. He is made of bronze, metal born of mixing from where weapons are made. Sharp edge of the blade that I will wield to conquer the world."
To her great surprise, her father pressed a soft kiss on the top of her forehead.
" And you, my child, are made of gold. Pure metal, absent of any corruption, measure of wealth and beauty. "
" Like the golden statues on the palace of King Midas. " She recalled, allmost in a whisper, lacking of trust for the praise. " Curse of greed, inhuman existence. "
Her reaction dissapointed him a bit, while at the same time being quite typical.
" Don't try to outsmart me, you know it upsets me. "
The limit was clearly settled and so, she tried to fix it with more flattery.
" Would you show me the spots on the map that already belong to you? "
Hey, did you hear that Orlando Bloom recently talked about how he disliked doing Troy?

Orli has been very open about his dislike for the character of Paris for years. At the time he was used to play epic heroes and, in comparison, Paris is like being downgraded to play Prince Charming from Shrek lol.
He hated Paris a lot, but he still gave a 10/10 performance. I can't imagine anyone else playing him.
Brad Pitt had a similar problem, part of why he played Achilles so well is because he was partially playing himself as a pissed off star with disdain for the creative decisions.
Eric Bana, on the other hand, always speaks fondly of his time doing the film. Same can be said for Brian Cox, who had a lot of fun and always has fun side comments to add everytime they ask him about it.
Last time, he had a " Look, i'm straight. But when I saw Brad Pitt walk in on the set of Troy? " moment lol.
Troy (2004) 20th Anniversary Celebration / May 13-14th 2024
Hi, everyone!
This will be the very first time I will be doing an event in my blog and I decided to do it in honor of the underrated special interest that turned me into a fanfict writer.
Troy (2004) turns 20 years and I want to give it love in this particular birthday. Unfortunately, sickness limited the amount of activities i could plan, so I will be doing a reduced one from my original list incluíding things i can deliver for you from bed on my phone.
What will i offer you for this special event:
-Movie Talk
Drop an ask and just let's discuss the film in whatever form you prefer. What are your favorite scenes/characters? Anything you want to revisit about the movie?
I will be open to (respectfull) myths and history vs film talks too, as long as it is not started in bad faith. The point of the event is to celebrate: we can laugh of the llama in the trojan market and other mistakes, but I won't accept hate.
-Drabbles
As the ones who know my blog are already aware of, I mostly write reader inserts fics for the movie. For so, writing will be a big part of this.
Pick a character and a prompt from any of the lists linked here and I will write a short thing for you.
In all cases for writing activities, both platonical or romantical requests are welcome.
-Headcanons
Character headcanons: can be x reader oriented or just about the character, it's up to the participant's choice.
You can also ask for headcanons centered on my fic series ( or its still in process AU)
-Match ups/special requests
Personalized writing.
Send me a brief description of yourself in the way you prefer and I will match you with one of the heroes or heroines of the movie.
Alternatively, you can also send a customized plot for me to write you a short fic.
-Playlists
Send me a character, ship or situation of the film and I'll share you songs I associate to it.
- Crossovers
Inspired by an ask i answered once to @xgoddessoffandomsx imagining a Legolas/Paris/Will meeting that I had so much fun with, i invite you to try a similiar thing.
Out of context, no explanation required, fun crossover ideas for interactions of characters for the sake of it.
During the event, I will also reblog/post general content about the film.
I'm looking foward having fun with you 💕

I found this edit hunting for pics of the film and I'm posting it cause I find it unintentionally funny
Reminds me of this
After stealing all the credit on the first victory of the war, Achilles'defense action is to give Agamemnon this innocent look
Then when everyone left and he is alone to argue with him
At moments the movie manages to bring the brat son and sick dad energy those two have.
Odysseus and Agamemnon looking like proud parents of the trojan horse
It may be absolutely unfaithfull to the true characterization, but I love Troy version of Agamemnon. As a villian he is fucking hilarious, just check on this:
The inside of the throne room of his palace in Mycenae
and now look at the inside of his tent in the greek camp
It looks literally the same, he made it be copied in every detail ... Even the fucking throne.
His throne is right there, i can't get over that. It is unclear if the motherfucker has a replica or may have ordered the original be carried away to Troy with him
Diverted Course
Troy (2004) Reader Insert Fanfiction / Achilles x Mycenaean Princess!Reader Precuel - Part 22
Word Count 10 K
Warnings: Thetis is being portrayed as a supportive mother. Clichés from the historical epic-swords and sandals film genre mixed with mythology.
Characters (main): Achilles, Patroclus, Thetis, Phoenix, Eudorus, Agamemnon, Hesione.
Summary: Returning to his homeland gives Achilles time to meditate on the intense experience he has lived and he intends to take drastic choices on the matter. However, the reminder of a pernicious detail leaves him in need of good advice and Patroclus convinces him of visiting the best sources available.
In the meantime, Hesione attempts to penetrate the stubborn mind of her master hoping to persuade him using his loneliness on her advantage.
Notes: In the movie Achilles afirms to have seen the gods, implying he is the only mortal arround who had any contact with at least some of them. From this fact i attempt to add some of the mythical element into the story without changing the original tone of Troy centered in mortal actions and motivations.

There were many silent sacrifices that Achilles accepted to endure for Patroclus since he took him in, but having to stand his new friend during a good portion of the journey back to Pithia was a very annoying one. The bard that the lad befriended in Mycenae was quite talkative and obtrusive, constantly meddling in matters that weren’t his business. He would never stop reminding him that he was a witness of his greatest crime, the only one Greece wouldn’t cheer him for. The awakening of passion in the heart of the queen among greek princesses, splendid daughter of the King of Kings, woman meant to belong with some mighty lord ruler of rich lands. The story brought forward the bard’s curiosity, seeing in it great epic potential and for so, filling the hero with unwanted advice in hopes of making him reveal more details.
Death threats weren’t enough to keep him shut, not at least while being around them. It was most likely that Alexander knew the risk that the rage of the myrmidon champion meant for him and wouldn’t challenge it anyways, but he also wanted to have privileged access to the novelty. He would keep it secured awaiting for better times in which his songs would be an honor instead of a source of scandal. That didn’t stop him from accidentally bringing many questions to the hero’s already troubled mind.
I don't wanna spoil you all, but i want to share something i'm planning about the next part of my Troy precuel fic.
It's gonna be back on Achilles ( yay! Finally! I was craving for this), but i also want to include a paralelistic exploration of Tetis and Agamemnon through the topic of parenting.
I will portray her as a loving mother and i will try to find something nice to say about this sack of wine.
