It’s easy for me to think about Ted/Rebecca primarily from Rebecca’s point of view most of the time just because it’s so overwhelming that this relentlessly nice, lovely man comes into her life (due to her own evil scheme!!!) and celebrates and enjoys her as easy as breathing right as she’s been twisted up into her bitterest self by years and years of an abusive marriage.

But also: Ted tries so, so, so hard to be enough, and not too much, for Michelle, but no matter how sunny and affectionate he is, it just doesn’t work for her and even makes her feel bad, and then he feels so guilty for that. But Rebecca sees that same boundlessly sunny, silly, giving part of Ted and immediately can’t resist it, even when she is smack dab in the middle of trying to be her Darkest Timeline self. Like, how wonderful for Ted that right when he’s feeling completely flawed in his crumbling marriage, he meets Rebecca and she absolutely melts and blooms under the sunshine that is his attention. It’s not his fault! Michelle just wasn’t right for him. But Rebecca is. Rebecca gets him. To Rebecca, he’s not too much even when she’s desperately trying to convince herself that he is.

Anyway the first season remains the most insanely exquisite romance setup I have ever seen in my mere human life and this rewatch is out to end me. Yay!

I think we should write more straight relationships with 2010s TV queerbait tactics. Let that man and that woman's lives be horribly intertwined, let them take bullets for the other, let them be each other's meaning but NO KISSING. They are holding each other platonically. You're crazy for reading anything romantic into it at all tbh

#okay but this scene is THE scene#ive said it many times over but through to the end it remained undefeated#from the moment he walks in to the moment keeleys takes rebecca away the absolute perfect defining moment for them in my mind#its just so incredibly affectionate#he smiles when he sees her posing for the pictures!#he was wandering around the club looking for her because he had to give her her biscuits!#he makes a sweet compliment as soon as he can and she is so charmed by it!#she grabs the biscuits voraciously and they sit side by side in front of the cubbies#and the imagery with the colors of the club and the blue and red its just so symbolic of a partnership#and they go on to have such a lovely informative conversation while looking so comfortable and at ease with each other#ted hypes her up again they laugh they banter back and forth but he also gives her serious advice about higgins#also my most favorite bit of it#when rebecca says im changing the subject and ted immediately and unquestioningly says go ahead#its just so!#it doesnt matter to her that he rambles and talks too much because she knows she can just be like alright thats done now#and ted will be like okey dokey and not sweat it because all he really wants is for people to just be honest with him!!#idk!! this is entering headcanon territory now but like! he doesnt have to worry about being too much with her#because he trusts that if he is going overboard she will just tell him and be done with it#so he doesnt have to second guess anything!#but also its not like shes cutting him off at the quick either#she likes his stupid rambling and his puns and she enjoys spending time with him!! she is an extremely loving social person too!!!!#obviously because she loves biscuits with the boss she was having regular chats with him and hearing his nonsense regularly EVERY MORNING#JOYFULLY!!!#they wouldve been really happy together is my point#im really fucking sad#ted x rebecca#actually im not done “and in this scenario of yours little girls read the football financial quarterly?”#“well who knows little girls are mysterious and silly and powerful i gave up trying to figure them out years ago”#and she laughs#its such a warm good natured exchange (via @mrgaretcarter )
