and YET
they both stem from the same ultra specific concept that is,
The cheerful, somewhat naive, overly optimistic child of the ruler of hell (who is both an absentee king AND an absentee father giving said child daddy issues) along with their partner (a grumpy, strict, no nonsense, traumatised fallen angel with anger issues who had a pair of their wings ripped out) with a bunch of other chaotic idiots, run an establishment open to the public in the hopes that it will lead to better relations with heaven, so they can avoid future bloodshed and live in (relative) peace
Lucifer's Catch That Wave UR reads like an older man who used to surf when he was young rediscovering the thrill of surfing, after witnessing a surfing competition while working makes him start longing for it again

Lucifer - Lightning
-> You know that little crackly ball of lighting when Lucifer gets really mad? (The others do it too but not as frequently as Lucifer)
-> Sharp and dangerous and deadly
-> atla called lightning "the cold blooded fire" and I can't stop thinking about that because I think it somehow fits Lucifer really well. It also links him with Mammon, and shows their similarities and differences
2023 Update:
-> Lucifer uses lightning as his attack in the NB rhythm game
-> In Lucifer's devilgram where they basically have little magical familiar's/basically pokemon that are supposed to match them (eg: Levi's has water powers) Lucifer's one uses lightning powers

Levi - Water
-> I mean...
Satan - Energy
-> He was created from pure energy
-> Explosive anger like Satan's just feels like something that needs a lot of energy
-> He constantly pushes down his anger letting it all build up until he explodes
-> Waves of pure energy that when he gets pissed will plow through anything and anyone that stands in his way
Asmo - Wind
-> I always see Asmo as being kind of flighty and airy and floaty
-> He has no permanent attachments to his numerous lovers
-> He can also be extremely dangerous and cruel and cutting
-> He can use it to spread his pheromones to get more people to fall for him
Beel - Earth.
-> He summons a giant humanoid rock creature in S3 the same way Levi summons Lotan
-> Also earth is associated with being strong and somewhat defensive and Beel's strong but takes on a defensive position when fighting (according to what he said in S3)
Belphie - Darkness/Shadows
-> This is obviously not an element but I have some vague memory of Belphie summoning some darkness/shadow creature in S3 (might have to check it again)
-> Could he manipulate other peoples shadows? To tether them to a place or weigh them down and force them to indulge in Sloth?
-> He'd also be able to put people to sleep and manipulate their dreams
About powers I have no concrete idea but anime and atla have given me so many thoughts and possibilities that are just bouncing around in my head???
For now, though, with what little canon evidence we have:
• In S3 MC uses fire to attack a man, making it spread through the circus tent without actually burning anyone or anything but still strong enough to melt a speeding bullet so something along those lines would be probable
• With Mammon's association with dragons and his onesie being able to breathe fire I'd say breathing fire would also be a possibility

MC: Have you noticed whenever Lucifer needs something important done he always goes to one of us?
Belphie: because out of everyone, he trusts the two of you the most to get something done with the least amount of chaos and permanent consequences

He loves them all so much it's driving me insane. That's he's fucking family. They may be chaotic assholes who make his life harder but he loves each and every one of them and is, everyday, appreciative of their continued existence in his life.

And in the manga, where transformed-into-a-sheep-MC can't remember their name, he names them "Zephyr" as a pun/joke because:
1.) at the moment he was thinking of a name a breeze blew in
2.) a breeze blowing was what made Lucifer pick MC for the exchange program in the first place
The game is obviously a different AU from the manga and MC's name totally depends on whatever each individual player picks
However, MC still gets picked for the exchange program because of the wind scattering all the candidates' documents after Lucifer opened a window and picked MC randomly
Anyway, my point being "Zephyr" is an absolutely amazing name and I'm obsessed with the headcanon that game Lucifer (and only Lucifer) uses it as a nickname for MC
they all care about him so much and it hurts that he's surprised each time
Mammon Fell purely so he wouldn't be separated from Lucifer and Lucifer doesn't even know. He's still Bamboozled by the fact his brothers would stick with him through thick or thin, that they love him so fiercly no matter how much they fight, the same way he loves them
Traumatised Tragic Old Man who keeps hurting himself for the people he loves and is shocked each time they react negatively to it because he has willingly made himself into their Villain to protect them from threats that no longer exist, but that previous trauma insist are still present, and so now he thinks it's only fair that they all hate him, while simultaneously not realising the extent to which his actions and words have actually hurt them - so the same way that seeing the evidence of their continued love towards him still shocks him, seeing the evidence of the persisting hurt he caused them also shocks him

There's always something vaguely threatening and/or challenging about it but at the same time it's very clear that they care about each other a lot, and overall it's just very bizzare to anyone who's looking from the outside in

can't believe the peak character design for THE Lucifer Morningstar is an out-of-touch overprotective dad, who would do anything for his kid(s), and is trying to connect with them but instead he accidentally makes them think he doesn't give a shit and ends up giving them serious daddy issues
Lucifer's proposing being stuck with only Diavolo for a long but unknown period of time and Mephisto just cuts in?????? Imagine Diavolo having to put up with their bitchfest for centuries😭
Look at Lucifer's face😭
He went from -> 😠 (ready and determined to sacrifice his whole life to save the devildom and stay by Diavolo's side) to every single frame since Mephisto joined being -> 😔 (good grief mephisto's talking)
Girl don't drag MC into this bullshit. they don't like mephisto enough to stop lucifer from killing him
Love any moment when Mammon decides to step up and be the responsible one, because not only does it show that he is capable of it but it also shows exactly why he's the one Lucifer trusts when he wants something done.
His carefree attitude is just as much a choice as it is part of his personality
Plus like with this Nightbringer chat, I saw the name of the chat and the first three profile pics and thought "okay so this will be an adults vs kids" chat with Simeon & Lucifer being the two adults and Mammon & someone else being the kids - because usually Mammon's grouped with the other "kids" (While MC jumps between the "adults" and "kids" group). Except the chat was really about Simeon, Lucifer and Mammon all getting together to complain about the younger brothers
Simeon and Lucifer both agree that when it comes down to it Mammon fits in more with "common sense" than "brats"
And it makes sense that there'd be a chat where the three of them talk about how to handle the others because they've known each other since before Levi was even created and each of them have taken on parental/guardian roles in regards to the rest of the brothers and/or other characters.
Overall, Mammon's the young, fun uncle who spends most of the time during the family reunion goofing off with the kids and accidentally knocking over an entire table of food but in spite of this he's also responsible enough to make sure the kids don't kill each other or themselves during the whole day, and he's old enough to get buzzed with the Adult - adults (aka the adults who raised him and actually know what rent and taxes are)
Bonus because;
The steampunk devilgram also has a great moment of showing how competent Mammon really is despite the fact that he had to be dragged in kicking and screaming to get the job done. In this case it was how much MC & Beel had to force him to guard the airship/give a tour of it and how much he complained about it right up to the point where he had no choice but to do it and then instantly he's in "hyper-competent tour guide" mode

The fucking pirate AU still manages to rattle my brain because what the fuck is this???? (Also where the fuck is Mammon's pirate card on nightmare??? It's been over one year pls solmare bring it back i'm SO close to getting all the pieces)
Okay so canonically;
• They're all humans in the fantasy pirate AU
• Satan's an adult but is also searching for his dad
• This means that Lucifer is probably significantly older than the rest - or at least old enough to have an adult son
• Mammon & MC are established partners (in the "scheming against the others' " sense, the "romantic sense" is optional) and as seen in this post this adds to their dynamic but most importantly Mammon jumps to follow MC's easily & quickly
• I can't remember if Mammon is canonically Lucifer's first mate or if that's just a given considering Mammon's usual role as Lucifer's right-hand-man-when-shit-hits-the-fan in the main story canon
• Lucifer's pirate UR & chat both touch on how MC is newer to the whole pirate thing but also how Lucifer's training them (yeah I have a whole fic with unnecessarily detailed worldbuilding about this AU that has lived in my head for over a year now, that touches on how Mammon&MC are a partnership that acts like they've been working together for ages despite MC still being relatively new)
• Lucifer's training MC to be better than him and says he'll look forward to that day, but what kind of pirate captain would look forward to a day when a crew member can surpass him...?
And that makes me think.....
What if he wants MC to take over as captain? Not now, obviously, they're still new and learning but eventually one day in the future when he's too old for it? (and being a fantasy pirate AU we can imagine all pirates have long careers until they can happily retire) when they can stand their own against him and win? The others already like them and listen to them, and they've already got a first mate who they work incredibly well with so...? Because I can't think of any other reason within this AU for Lucifer to be encouraging them to best him
tldr: Lucifer's old and tired and he dreams of giving the ship to the idiot least likely to burn it down within 24Hrs, and going off to get a spa treatment in Diavolo's village
