Rebecca Sugar killing it at the Steven Universe panel yesterday.
Just got back from San Diego Comic-Con International. The SU panel was one of the best I’ve ever seen. They had us laughing, crying, and everything in between. Anyways, just a pic I managed to get from the second row while Rebecca sang “Love Like You.”
Not Steven Universe or a parallel exactly, but I made this really cool cover song of “Everything Stays” from Stakes!

This is like the artist equivalent of seeing a big-name movie star doing some cheesy commercial.
This hits me in a personal way.
I can thank Invader Zim and Rebecca Sugar for so much in my life.
I met my first boyfriend in middle school thanks to a mutual love for Invader Zim (we’re still good friends). Fast forward 13 years since then and my now husband and I also bonded thanks to the show.
Invader Zim led me to Invader con in 2012. It was there that I met my first professional contact that led me to an internship at Nickelodeon a few months later.
While I was at Nickelodeon, I saw the “Remember Me” episode of Adventure Time. I fell in love with it episode and all the work she did for the show. I was a musician, and I wanted to write music and stories for cartoons just like her.
Fast forward to now, I’m a PA at Dreamworks thanks to Invader Zim and the inspiration I drew from Rebecca Sugar. Seeing this old fan hers just hits me in all the feeliest places.
